> why? Looks to me like the omega force has AM-FM and SSB and is $10.00 cheaper and very nearly the same output. No need really for a freq counter on an AM-FM only radio. It's just a road map for the extra channels. A SSB omega would be more fun seems to me.

The Magnum S-6 is a Very Good Radio with more Bells and Whistles than the Magnum S-3.

Many people like AM/FM Radios as many have no interest or desire in using SSB and it fills the void.

It allows a person to have a good operating radio with only what a person wants in a radio without all the features they do not want or will not use.

Personally I like and use the S-3 and S-45.

I didn't mean to elude to anything being wrong with the S-6. I'd have no doubts that it's a great performing radio. Magnum series radios are getting rave reviews by their owners. I mean hey, just look at all the posts on the loud audio and great recieve that they have. Either radio, or, I think any high power Magnums is a good rig.

Finally hooked up my S6 which i bought from
Copper and got great audio reports when i first
keyed up..The knob controls are a bit close to
each other, but the Channel Dial is real smooth,
the blue display lights and red transmit lights
are real nice as well..just have the power hooked
up via cig.lighter power socket on F150 plan to
go direct to battery real soon, and will come
back with some more reports I think going straight
to the battery will improve the output..

UPDATED

MAGNUM S-6
Owners Manual Addendum
December 2005

Microphone Amplifier Circuit - Gain Level Notice:

The Magnum S-6s microphone amplifier circuit gain level has been set for an aftermarket noise cancelling microphone. If the gain level requires further adjustment, remove the echo board mounted to the side chassis of the radio (in front or the toroidal DC input choke) and adjust VR-1 located on the echo board to the desired setting.

Transmitter Section Audio Level Adjustment:

The transmitter's audio level is adjusted by VR14. For maximum transmitted audio output adjust VR-14 to the full clockwise setting.

Transmitter Specifications Updates:

Power Output:
AM: ~ 1-10 Watts Carrier / 45+ Watts PEP
FM: ~ 1-10 Watts

Final Transistors:
ERF-2030 (x2)

* These specifications were obtained under the following test conditions:

Power Source: ~ Regulated DC Power Supply

Operating Voltage: ~ 13.8 V DC

Wattmeter: ~ Bird 43 Thruline Wattmeter with 4300-400 Peak Power Conversion Kit and 25-60MHz, 50W element.

Test Procedure Notes:

(a) ~ This Transciever uses ERF-2030 MOSFET RF Power Transistors.
(b) ~ The ERF-2030 transistors develop their MAXIMUM power output under HUMAN VOICE test conditions.
(c) ~ When measuring power output of this transceiver it is NOT recommended that a 1kHz tone or whistle be used-these tones do not accurately simulate normal speech levels and will not provide accurate output measurements.
(d) ~ When measuring the power output of this transceiver, it is recommended that the word "four" be said into the microphone in a long, drawn-out manner. "Fourrrrrrrrrrrr"

I have a Magnum S-6 and love it i mainly use it for coyote hunting and regular local chit chat , its so nice to have a power house radio that really talks and doesnt bleed 15 channels or over modulate when your siting in your truck talking to another guy just a half mile away. when i want to dx i drive my Texas star dx 400 and it does wonder with the top gun modulator , when i have them both on i can allways talk as far as i can hear i have a 102 inch s.s. whip and you allready know how good the receive is on these radios. i opted for the s-6 cause who has time to try to clarify somebody in on side band when there driving sounds like a accident waiting to happen to me thats why i have a base. so overall i would recommend this radio to anybody
