I just got a new Galaxy 45Mp for my newest toy and was wondering if anyone else had one or if you had heard of problems with them. Mine has a few bugs that, if they can't be fixed, would end up getting the radio sent back. First, the talkback sounds fuzzy or scratchy, when I turn the echo off, I get a high pitched whine when I key up, and when I turn the variable power up or down, it makes a noise that I would normally associate with a short. I have changed mics (Astatic 636 and RK56), antennas, antenna location, coax, everything. The high pitched whine I get with the echo off even when the truck isn't running. Any ideas? I just got the radio about a week ago, and I really like it otherwise but these problems are driving me up the wall! I just would like to add, this forum is populated by the most helpful, least "smart-alecky" people around. It's really a treat to be able to ask questions that might be viewed as dumb and still be able to get serious, helpful, and valuable advise and answers. Thanks to all the forum members! slim6596 in ohio p.s: The fuzzy talkback is NOT a result of a disabled mod limiting circuit. I was very specific, when I ordered the radio, about this, and I've verified that it isn't disabled by getting it bench checked a few days ago. Thanks again. |

Does the radio do all of the above on a bench into a dummy load? |

I don't know about the echo switch/ whine or variable power/ possible short problems, but the tech couldn't get the talkback to do it on his bench. In my truck, it doesn't always sound fuzzy or distorted. I can be talking, sounding fine one syllable, then scratchy the next. The tech said it sounds (from my description) like the mic is overdriving the variable talkback circuit. I just don't know. I really don't want to give up the new toy, but I don't think I should have to pay for the radio and setup, then take it right back to a shop to have other problems fixed. |

Rule of thumb.. LOL.. Never buy a radio that has just come out.. Yeah there are a lot of good guys on here and this IMHO is one of the cleanest "PG" rated forums ive been on.. |

Tech671 posted this on another part of the forum, never buy from the first batch, let them work the bugs out of 'em. |

Hey everybody. Just wanted to give you an update on my 45. I went to my tech and had him go thru the radio. He fixed the talkback problem and the variable power problem. The high pitched whistle he identified as coming from the backlit faceplate. After he tuned it up, he said that it's doing a little under 50 (clean) watts, and he compared it's (bench) performance to the Maverick A24. |

Glad to see you got her dialed in, and thats impressive considering the radio has two 20 watt finals. Those loose meters sure make ya feel good. All numbers aside, if you have loud , clean audio with no problems then you got a keeper, enjoy. |
