good radio. i bought one about 2 months ago and have it peak and tuned from a local tech. he got out some upper and lower frequencies with 1 watt dead key and a modulation swing of 40 watts. i haven't had any problems with it. |

go with the one that looks more appealing to you beatle.these two rigs use the same main board and will get the same results w/peak & tune and xtra channels and so on! price is about the same also! i've had one(dx2547) for a few months now and in my opinion,it's the best "CB" base to come along since the cobra 2000gtl.excellent RX/TX! i did put a "channel guard" filter in mine and WOW,talk about an improvement on splatter! although these boards have pretty good rejection from the factory i wanted to try and see;boy do i like!!!believe it or not,i think my dx2547 has better(cleaner)RX than my kenwood ts440-s/at with filters!!! well, there went my 2-cents for the next month! good luck,SLIM |

Just got one (2547). I think its great. Great receive, great transmit. Did a few of the mods such as the heavier mod chips. Q39 removed as well with no splatter on SSB as some report. Best talking radio I have had. Tech support is great as well. I have not asked a question yet that they have not responded to right away. I have heard that the weather in the TR696F/SSB deteriorates the transmit and receive on that radio. Also the 2547 has better receive numbers as well if you check the specs. |

I do have a question on the DX-2547 though. I am really wanting one of these bases. However, I was curious to know if I want it moded for "un-locked" Receive and Transmit, will the freq counter follow the clarifier setting? or not? I have heard there are a few radios out there that will not follow the freq drift in the clarifier. I'm not to sure on some of these things. And will I be able to get this rig modified for the extra channels? I really appreciate all input I can get on this radio. Thank you very much |

Oh yeah, I forgot to ask. Is the board in the 2547 the same exact board that's in the 696F/SSB? I'm just curious to know. And what I meant by the question of mods was "Can I get it mod-ed for the extra freqs and clarifier by Copper. I have to ask this question here as You can't get any Tech support from Copper unless you call between the hours of 10am-2:30pm. Sure wish I had a job like that. |

Cuddlebear, The 2547 uses the EPT0696-10Z Board and it is also used in the 949, 959, Texas Ranger 396, 399, 696, 699, 900 series as well as many other radio's. Yes if you order your Radio from Copper they will Modify it for you (Un-lock), just look on order page and Click on the Box when ordering. As for the Clarifier Modification Copper does not do that The Copper Tech receives maybe 20 to 50 Calls in that time plus working on Radio's. The Forum here allows people to get answers to 99% their question's by Reading All of the Forum or posting or useing the Search Area and reading the Ads on Products. That is why we have the Copper Tech's and Moderstor's on the Forum Here to help when we can. And NONE of us Live in KY and we are located all across the US and all donate out time to help when and where we can. With between 100 and 150 posts a day at times to the Forum it does get busy and at Copper with maybe 300 to 500 calls a day it is also very busy also. Lon Tech808 |

Dear Tech 808, I am getting ready to purchase this radio. I will be sitting it next to another fine radio, the Robyn T240D. I see the box to check next to the order that says tunning for $30.00. Will you please tell me exactly what that includes. Are there other modification that are done by coppers to this radio. I do not want additional channels, just to improve the radio's reception and transmit. I read in this thread adding components. Do you have any suggestions. What would be things you would do, aside from adding channels. This would be a primary am/ssb station. Thank you. |

In the Same Price Range is the Texas Ranger 696F SSB Base radio which I do own and have used with Great Results and have been Very Pleased with. http://www.copperelectronics.com/cgi-bin/checkitout/checkitout.cgi?catalogSTORE:CKIE:prodE00-07000+ Hope this Helps. Dear Tech808, I would like to apologize for my comment in an earlier post. I did not realize that the techs that worked for copper were NOT actually on-site at the home office. It was reasonable for me to assume that if Copper had techs, that they worked in the same building. I was out of line. I also never realized that you folks get that many calls per day. |

Can anyone that owns a Galaxy 2547 post what their (actual with out exaggeration) their performance specs. What I mean is what was their Peak dead key and peak swing mod. I am interested in the add on performance mods to, just for performance, not for extra channels. For instance the filters, heavier mod chips and such. Basically I am looking for a well performing base with good filtering that I can have in my shack and be very satisfied with that is strictly for 11 meter. And an opinion on what mic would be suitable with this radio would be helpful as well. |

Dear Sitm, I believe I can help you with some things you asked. First off, this radio is a great performer. But when I got mine, I did a complete alignment on it. While doing the peak & tune I was very confused as to why the SSB power wouldn't increase at all. After doing some research into it, I finally got the power increase by uncoiling a spring coil listed as "L29" on the board. After this, I got the following. My AM power maximum is 6 watts dead key, with modulation to 18 watts actuall. On my SSB the power is a swing to 23 watts. I also noticed that by adjusting "L29" on the board, the heat sink on the radio doesn't heat up as bad. AS for modulation, out of the box mine peaked at 50%. I wasn't happy with that at all since many people said I sounded very weak. I peaked it at 90% and now my signal is perfect. I have had nothing but excellent reports on how "clean and crisp" my audio is. This radio is capable of more modulation, but anything over 100% is wasted anyway, and distorts this radio. I firmly recommend 80-90% modulation at peak on this rig. As for microphones, I use either my stock mic, or a Sadelta Echo master base mic on mine. With just enough echo to add extra base. But not to really go nuts with it. I have also tried several "Astatic" mics. They ALL performed top notch. I got very good reports from the D-104 desk mic. I found that I didn't need to turn this mic up very much at all to really make this radio sing like a Canary. Filtering is good on adjacent channel rejection. I found it to be better than most radios in it's class. As for the heavier mod chips etc, I have no knowledge here Sir, and therefor I apologize I cannot help in this arena. Please make note however, that not all radios will give you the same wattage etc. I have seen 2 radios that are identical models, when peaked and tuned one may put out 20 watts, the other will peak to 18 or maybe even 22 watts. I hope I wasn't to long winded here. But I believe in giving as much info as possible to the question so you know beyond any doubt what your dealing with I hope I have helped you with at least some of your questions Sir. Have a great day Sitm. Cuddlebear |

Thank you Cuddlebear. I appreciate your information since you own one of this units. They seem to be a very nice radio. I am still in the research stage on the purchase. I have several other radios but this radio seems to be one of those that you are going to wish you had purchased before they are discontinued or the company runs out of them. Thank you again.....73 |

Another great report on the DX 2547 today I was talking to several truckers today who asked me what I was talking on. When I told them what it was, one driver said he swore it sounded like an old tube set, he said it was one of the best sounding radios he had ever heard. The other drivers said the modulation was so clean and beautiful they wanted to know who had done the work. When I told them I did it, three of them were asking me if I worked on radios Now, that's a hell of a compliment. |

Cuddlebear, How much different would a DX 2547 be from coppers if I had the tune and peak modification done. What mic are you using. And what all have you done to this radio that would be different from how I would receive from coppers.???? |

Never mind the mic question. I re-read your post. But I am really interested in knowing what a Dx 2547 would have for power output from copper with the tune and peak modification. Now, please if someone is going to respond by saying "to factory specks" please save the thread space. That doesn't help |

Sitm, Sorry, I cannot help you on this one as I have never used or owned a DX2547. What the Power is set at when shipped may differ greatly for what you see when it arrives. Depending on what Equipment a person has in line and the condition of the Equipment you can see a 5 to 10 watt difference or more, either higher or lower and depending on what Kind / Type of meter you are useing. Maybe someone Who has Bought one From Copper can answer your Question on what you should roughly see for power. Lon Tech808 |

Dear Sitm, In response to your post on this, I can only answer what a Copper Tech posted on this forum once. They do a complete alignment as I have done to my radio. However, I cannot speak as to wether or not they do a "Factory Spec" on it only, or if they will turn the power up on it etc. Because I myself have never had them do any radio work for me at Copper's. I did the extra channels on mine and unlocked the clarifier so it will track RX/TX at the same time. I do know for a fact that Copper has told me they will NOT unlock a clarifier etc, because it will void a warranty on a 11 meter radio. |

Thank you Cuddlebear, well if there is anyone that has ordered a Dx 2547 from copper. Can you please let me know what the performance (peak and deak key) power is. And what your reports on transmission have been. Cuddlebear, how hard would it be for a novice to do some of the things that you have done to your Galaxy? |

Tech808 / Cuddlebear: with the DX-2547 and the dx-959 using the same board, would it not be true that the basic recieve and AM/SSB audio quality would be pretty much the same? |
