Hey everybody. For all the Ham Radio Operators on the Copper Forum. I must sadly report to each of you, you have a new silent key from South Carolina. My cousin, Earnest Miller, W4SSP, passed away last week and was put to rest on Wednesday of last week. He was a General Class operator in the Ham radio world since the 1940's. He got into ham radio while serving in the Coast Guard. In talking with him about 3 months ago, I asked him how fast in his day could he send CW. In the Coast Guard, he could go 40 plus words a minute. I asked him how fast could he go now. He said "oh I have slowed down, probably not more than 37 or 38 words a minute now". And I am talking sending CW.Anyway, I took a 1940's Hallicrafters Shortwave Receiver up to show him about two months ago. He sat up in bed and had a blast for about 20 minutes, showing me everything about the radio. It was like watching a kid get his first radio for christmas!! That was the last time I saw him or talked to him, but what a GREAT MEMORY!!!!!! We were close cousins, and I will miss him. But I also know that Ham Radio Operators like to know when they have a Silent Key. Earnest Miller, W4SSP, was 69 years old. Thank you for letting me share this with each of you.
