tough call...even from me . i was ready to go 6900ftb/150 or connex 4800dxl(25 watt-same as 6900/25) when magnum came out with the S9. already had a delta. i chose the S9 & was not disappointed. the 6900 goes lower in freq, the S9 goes higher. both go outside ham bands, so there's still plenty of 'freeband' real estate on either. i preferred the S9's receive as well as xmit quality over the rci. the S9 will swing near 20 RMS, the rci maybe 11 or 12-more real power on the S9 then the rci. also the compressor function on the S9 helps through the noise/dx. i also prefer the S9's looks. though i didn't mod it that way, the S9 has a neat 5kc/10kc mod for it. i never noticed any problems with the 6900, nor have i had any with the S9. i won't give up my S9, but wouldn't mind adding a 6900-the 150 watter. |

when it is quiet, my S9 is quiet....no white noise. bleedover appears to be somewhat less then non-channel guarded XL. as for noise when it's in the mobile, again, no different then my XL. when i drive down main thoroughfare at night with tons of flourescent lighting, neon, wires, etc, i get hash on any radio i use, but S9 is no worse then any other radio i have, & noticeably better in many cases. at the base, it is awful close in comparison to receiver on my ic735-noise rejection & sensitivity-wise. |

I had a Ranger 6900 F25 and it sounded like poo on SSB and it had been peaked and tuned by one of my favorite CB shops. AM performance was excellent, crystal clear audio. I havent had and S-9 (going to buy one soon, hopefully from copper ) but I do own 2 Magnums, the S-3 and S-380 and they sound really good on AM, Magnum is the best bang for your buck in my opinion, so go with the S-9. |

i did the 'standard' mod with 6th digit enabled in all modes & tuned variable rf control for low power less then 1 watt dead key to a max of 11 dead key. the variable controls AM & SSB pep to 38-42 & RMS swing to 18-20. more PEP got no more RMS swing, so i left it there.
