I got me a WILSON 1000 mounted one foot from the windshield on the right front fender of my small truck and the first foot of the stinger gets warm to the touch, on receive mode, after a short QSO.I am running a Messenger 1200 at 600[Diamond SX100]watts with 140amperes @ 14volt.Is this normal i.e. the heating up of the stinger? If so who will join me for toasted marshmellows? You bring the 807`s. |

You're running at least 100 watts more than it's rating,at that output the coil is hotter you could split the housing but if it handles all that power safely put on some sun block seeing you're that close to so much radiant energy. The antenna is rated at 1000 watts pep, approximately 500 rms,get a wilson 5000 it'll handle about 1600 rms watts safely.A full size whip will handle anything you poke at it,good dxing. I run a Wilson 5000 Roof mount putting about 500 watts through it. The first foot like you noticed gets warm and even hot.......the coil doesn't heat up and the SWR is flat so I don't worry. I know it's weird but it's kind of neat!! |

The W5k would definately be in order for the M1200. Even *if* the antenna was handling it, you're frying the rg58 coax! |
