Ok guys need info to help to decide between the Ranger Or Galaxy base. I will be doing some sideband and AM DXing. I have a Galaxy 77 and it seems to drift a lot on sb. Like to have pros and cons if possible. Does the Galaxy base drift on sideband? I done the search on this forum a number of times and still can not decide. I'm more concerned about quality then toys, echo, roger beebs doesn't matter. Money is burning a hole in my pocket. I just put up a Imax and it is about 60 feet to the tip above my roof, it's on a hill behind my house. |

Dx 2517 IS A GOOD RADIO, I FIND ON MINE AFTER IT IS WARMED UP THAT THERE IS KNOW DRIFT, IT HAS THE BELLS ETC IF YOU WANT THEM EVER, GOOD MODULATION I AM TOLD,very good on ssb, AND A GOOD LOOKING RADIO LIKE ITS OPERATOR.And I am the only one useing it ever. |

I bought a 2985dx about 1 year ago...super recieve(maybe too good sometimes), excellent audio on ssb. I would give it *** 1/2!!! |

Yea those were probably my cousins karatebutcher...They are kind of weird Yea bruce is right....My daughter will be lucky if she is allowed out of the house before the age of 25. I have a pretty extensive gun collection also....I just might have to put it on display when the time comes |

Daughters are something special aren't they, I had no trouble with mine dateing, she looks like me, but let me say she was a model, and modeled in France, Japan, and Italy, and for KODAK in the USA. they paid air fair, , Step One it was called, PROUD FATHER.

I beleive the 2985 is the best 10meter base on the market, next to the 2995.... Hand down a daw gone good radio... This radio i would recomend to anyone, when it comes to the 2517, i tell them not to wast there time and buy a 2985 which has ALOT more options that comes with the radio, better rec than just about any radio... A+++ no doubt.. A EXCELLENT BUY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Hitech I mentioned above about the Galaxy DX 2517, very good radio, and get your self a KLV 550, a D104 mike. and you will be happy , Copper will suit your needs, so there |

Get the 2985. Little bro to the mighty 2995. The 2985 is ok but not fancy enough for me! LOL I like all the fancy buttons and knobs the 2985/95 has. HE HE! |

The 2985 is a great radio, but the 2517 is "old school" in styling and just looks meaner. Performance between the 2 should be pretty close. But a 2517 with a good tuneup will get you flowers in all modes, and look darn nice doing it! |

I have both radios. The Galaxy-2517DX is excellent on AM/FM but like a boat without a rudder on SSB. You have to keep chasing the freq down every time you the change channels, and on SSB this gets old real fast. The RCI-2985DX is super clean, stays right on freq, and has a noise blanker that really works. It is fantastic on SSB, I have talked all over the world with it and, it fools the Hammy's everytime! They cant believe an RCI radio can sound just as good as thier Kenwood's or Yaesu's. Just my 2 cents... |

Hey Topten my 2517 stay's on freq. on ssb ALTHETIME,little secret NEVER shut it off,ever,except for t-storms.Mine sounds just like a kenwood when I use my 10-dal head on the astatic tug-9 base,really does fool'em,nuff said. |

Kinda makes them ham heads jealous eh? Oh well. LOL!!
My 2995 is rock solid on AM and SSB but i keep my AR 3500 for SSB use though. I usded to own a 2517 and it was not that stable as my 2995 on SSB either so at least i know i wasnt alone . |

Yeah !!!
I like my 2995 DX though. Good ears and good talking power plus if i want to i can run a big box behind it like a KLV 1000P or a heathkit SB 220 or the like!!! I love my 2995!! I had a 2990 once but it had a few problems and i sold it off but in the quality department it holds no candle to the 2995. |

Well I ordered the 2985dx with the Silver Salute microphone. My main reason for buying this radio is because of the good sideband. I got the 11 meter modification with tune up. Just can't wait. I can put the Galaxy 77 back in my work truck. Thanks for all the replies. Nick 189 WV |
