Just got my vr9000 from Copper. Had them set it up for me. It keys 4 watts and swings to 20 on lowest power setting. I am running it with a KL300p. What I was wondering is if this is too much power into the amp.The amp says it can be driven by 1-7 watts, but everyone around here tells me that I should lower deadkey to 2 watts or so. Then, if I need to lower power, which pot is low power adjustment? |

4 WATTS WILL BE FINE, BUT SOME DO LIKE TO LOWER THE DEAD KEY, THIS WILL PUT JUST ENOUGH INTO THE AMP TO DRIVE IT. IT MAY HAVE MORE MODULATION ON A LOWER DEAD KEY, BUT YOUR FINE AT 4 WATTS. THIS IS A GREAT RADIO, I HAVE ONE I GOT FROM COPPER! |

Hey Coltc99 Thanks a lot for the info. I think I will go ahead & turn it down just a little, I just don't have to be in a hurry. Yeah this radio seems to talk really well. Talked to Texas last night, which is not too shabby as I live in Tennessee. Talking to some of the locals and they said this radio sounds a LOT louder than the one I had (cobra29nwst). |

Just got my VR 9000 last week. So far,so good! Excellent reports from others with the stock mic too. Also, the mod only took about 10 minutes. The hardest part of the mod was removing the top cover. All in all, I'm impressed that a "low priced" radio like this does this great.IMHO, Best bang for the buck. |
