chickenlady, On our 2000 Pete 379 and 2000 KW L800 we ran the wires for the Radio and Amp directly to the batteries. We never had any problems with the Computer or Dash Gauges. The dash or overhead wiring in the Trucks were not designed to handle the bigger radios. (Guess they figured everyone would run a little 1 watt radio.) Check out the Link below and it will allow you to go to batteries and have your radio and amp hooked up (Splice both into leads) and makes it very easy to unplug and take your Radio & Amp in and out if needed. http://www.copperelectronics.com/cgi-bin/checkitout/checkitout.cgi?catalogSTORE:CKIE:prodW90-30014+ Lon Tech808 e-mail:Tech808@copperelectronics.com |

Chickenlady, Another area you may want to look at real close is where on the batteries you have your amp connected. If you have a generation II autoshift transmission or a Cat 3406E or C-5 engine the engine ECU and trans. ECU both run straight off the batteries. You can't connect your amp or radio to the same terminals as either ECU. What type of truck/engine do you have? Mike CEF 198 |

thank you for the advise,can I run my cb positive,and negative,by just splicing,them in to the amp wires,which are 8 guage wire? that way I would not,have 4 wires,connected,to my batteries,I dont have any wires to ,where my ecm,is hook to,,,I have a volvo,425hp,volvo motor,super 10,which runs on 3 batteries,I had a 4th battery,added,on,and tied in with the rest,I was told it,would not,hurt anything,I have a 130 amp,its shows 13.8 on the dash,and doesnt seem to move,when I key up,but the needles do,on tach,and speedometer dont want to ruin my computer,you,know |

I have found,in my experience, that if you can surround the computer with a fine mesh metal screen and ground that,it effectively shields the computer from rf from antennas this is espescially helpful with fiberglass body panels and allows cooling air to freely pass though.Remember to insulate the spots where the screen touches the computer with vinyl tape, because many are above ground potential. |

Chickenlady, Yes, just splice your cb wires in and you should have no problem. You might want to put Heat Shrink or Tape around splice. Your 4th battery should be no problem as the alternator in the volvo's are good ones and should carry the load with no problem's. Lon Tech808 |

I am not sure but I think people are not understanding what 808 is referring to with the 2000 pete and 2000kw L 800. Lon, correct me if I am wrong, but I think you are referring to semi-tractors. A year 2000 Peterbuilt model 379 and a year 2000 KenWorth model L800. I think some readers think you are refering to amplifiers. Kattracker AW DARN, I was having fun letting them think I was Hauling 29 extra Batteries and an Extra Trailer for the AMP. Yes, you are correct. Lon

so ,you think its funny!if I had a bra on,I would love to put ,it around you guys, neck, and choke the,,out of you,,,thought you guys, new what you where, talking about, not just full,of truckstop parking chit chat BS,tech,my ,ss NOTE! From Tech808 Chickenlady, I am sure Kattracker was not talking about your post. And neither was I, the remarks that were made was directed at me and I Apologize. The Information I posted and suggested has worked well for me in Both the Pete 379, 210.000 miles and the KW L800 160.000 Miles. We ran the Ranger 2970DX with a Texas Star EX1200 and had NO Problems as I stated. We would run pretty much 24/7/for 5 months and then tske a month off and then another 5 months on driving, Rarely except for repairs or home did we ever shut them off. If you have been driving for awhile we have probably talked at one time or another, OTR HANDLE was CATFISH & wife's 1st Sargant. We have always hauled Skateboard or Curtain Side Flatbed. If you ever travel thru Bloomington, Il. Drop down to 13 and give a shout. Radio is generally on from 5 am to midnight or later. Lon Tech808

Chickenlady, The only other suggestion is to take it to a Volvo Dealer and ask if they might have a Service Note on Adding radio's or any suggestion's that they may have. Lon Tech808 |

Actually it was taz and adshar64's post that got me thinking there was a misinterpretation or misunderstanding on what Lon was referring to. Kattracker |

I don't know much about the big rigs, ok nothing, but the first thing that jump to my mind was the routing of the coax. Does it go through the dash and/or past the area of the tach and speedometer? Just a thought. |

chickenlady, Are you still using the STOCK Volvo COAX? If you are it is not built to take your amp power. Also is your radio mount above the windshield or top of dash? Just curious, Lon Tech808

Tech808,im using copper color mini8 r259,I think, the fittings are gold color, and the radio is above the windshield,in the overhead,,,,I was thinking is it ok to splice a ground wire, off the one I have running to minus,on batterie, maybe to frame?,,and can you have 3 ground wires, running off amp?,,I have amp wires running to battery, and another one running to frame, can I put another one also?,,also what ,,deadkey should my radio be at? |
