Has anyone ever attempted to add up/down channel buttons to an astatic 636L? I am thinking about putting this mic on my Titan II and would like the up down buttons. Maybe i will tackle this later this afternoon.

Well I got the switches added...I will try to post these pics. I hope they go through. It was pretty easy and a fun project. I used some switches from radio shack(275-1571) they worked really well. Here are the pics

Buck,
Nice professional looking job! If it was your first time, consider yourself a natural. If you've done it before, your practice paid off. My hat's off to you!

Actually that was a first for me...Ive seen it done before but never tried it. The hardest part was getting everything to fit in the mic head. I had to make another trip to radio shack to get some smaller switches and a 2.2K ohm resistor for the switch. Other than that it went well. If anyone is interested in doing this let me know and I will give you some hints on what to avoid.

Well first off...get the smallest buttons you can find. I used part #275-1571 from rat shack and they worked great. Second drill your holes as close to the screw posts as you can so the switch will still fit. There isnt alot of room in that mic for anything extra. The switches are a tight fit. Next the wiring can be a little tricky...What mic and radio will you be using??? I had to use a 2.2 k ohm resistor inline with one of my switches to get it to work. I guess the Titan uses the same wire for both the up and down buttons but it relies on different voltage to change the up channel. Any questions feel free to ask

Nice job Buck...

Might I offer one ever so tiny cosmetic suggestion. Hmmm as a finishing touch, using a very fine model airplane brush and some model paint, paint the exposed nut and switch shft the same color as the mic.

Other that that tiny insignificant suggestion a fine job.

PS Buck....

On my 767 there is a provision for a common switch in addition to the up and down swithches. The common switch when activated allows the up and down switches to move in a more rapid fashion. MUCH FASTER. Perhaps your radio has this possibility.

Best to all

Hey Buck, I was thinking about the Magnum 257 from Copper will that mod work with that radio? Also Copper has a (external) Echo Chamber box that has a 5 pin male connector on the front, will that work with the Magnum as well (model number is S10-02028 EC995)?
Thanks For the help... (again)

Well the echo box will probably have to be rewired to work, (Im sure its wired for 5 pin cobra and such), but I dont see why it wont work. As for the mic on the Mag 257, it is the exact same wiring as the mic I just done. For the 636 (or any 6 wire astatic) to the Mag 257.

1. First thing I did was remove the center pin(#6) from my mic plug, it is not used and if shorted it can ruin your radio.

2. you need to wire the mic plug like this
pin 1-white(audio)
pin 2-black(receive)
pin 3-red(transmit)
pin 4-yellow(*see note below)
pin 5-shield and blue

3. Now you need to wire the mic head. Right now the yellow wire is wired to the PTT switch. It needs to be removed from that switch. Install your switches in the mic and wire one side of the down switch to the shield or blue wire. Connect the other side to to the yellow wire. Connect one side of the up switch to the red wire. Connect the other side to a 2.2K ohm 1/4 watt resistor and then to the yellow wire.
My switches are reverse from the stock mike because I thought the stock mike seemed backwards. You can do yours anyway you wish.
I hope this info helps you out....If you need help feel free to ask here or my email is in my profile

You will like the 257...I have two of the single final versions. They sound great and have great frequency coverage. I absolutly love mine. I am thinking about getting an astatic 575 and putting on mine. I have heard they really sound good with that mic. My email is always open
