I have inquired before on which radio to get, and was seriously considering the Magnum Omega Force or the Connex 4800 converted to 11m. The more I hear of the FCC cracking down on freebanders makes me realize I don't need all those extra channels. How many people are on those channels anyway? What I am looking for is an AM/SSB radio and maybe a small amp. I am interested in the CEF NET but dont have a radio with SSB. Please give me your thoughts on 11m radios. |

Unless you looking to bootleg on 10 meters the FCC will not bother you ..... the mag-257 is your best low price choice. Info on ham radio.... http://www.arrl.org and here are the FCC busts .... http://www.arrl.org/news/enforcement_logs/ |

everybody says 257, they're not expensive nor cheap. but if he doesnt need all those channels, and wants a ssb radio and maybe a small amp, how about a tr 296, or grant lt, or galaxy 949 and or 959? if it wasnt for the fact that i use 26.7550 for mobile to base comms i would probably get a 296. i already have a grant xl (channeled) and like it fine. not to steal a phrase but, "just my thoughts". aj |

I like the Galaxy 959 and the TR 296. Are these good radios? How do they sound (transmit and receive).I've read post of freq. drift on the Galaxys, does this hold true for the 11m radios also. One last ques. Will the TR 696 be available soon? Thanks for all the replys, you all have been a big help. Joe |

bruce, i dont want or need 10 meters. but i do want to get to 26.7550 am, and have an inexpensive (cheap) ssb for truck (toyota). if 3900 doesn't work out, i'll try again. after all isn't that what overtime is for? |

I have had the 949 and the 296, the 949 has alot of bells and whistles for the money, but the 296 is a better quality radio. go with the 296 |

got the 3900 today, will try it in garage first then s10. if it works out for me it will end up in the toyota, its intended new home. if it doesn't work out for me you can all say, "should of gotten a 257". aj |

hey i only used ssb on the 3900 1 time mobile to base with an inexperienced user on the base, and with it mounted between the bucket seats driving and tuning is a chore,BUT as far as using the 40 am, and operation in general i like it fine.since i moved the upstairs ranger to the garage now im thinking of getting another radio to replace it and once again the quandry, what to get ss3900 or 257, (it still calls to me). aj |
