I currently own a uniden pc 68 elite and will be adding a kl-500 amp to this with my d104 hand mike. I use a Wilson 1000 antenna. My other vehicle has a magnum s9 with a magnaforce 200. Smoking set up. I am considering selling the uniden pc 68 elite and buying one of the new magnum 257's to go with the kl-500 amp. My question is which set up will be louder, the 68 and the kl-500 or the magnum 257 and the kl? Also, please let me know your thoughts on the receive for each of these radios. I travel in the mountains alot and the 68 has nice receive and my guess is with the kl it will rock. But, I have limited space and the only other radio that comes to mind is the 257 hooked up to the kl. I realize the magnum will have higher rms and peak, but the real question is will it sound that much better to justify the purchase?? It seems that I would gain ssb, extra channels etc.. I do not use these features much in my other vehicle on my s9. Again, just looking to hear opinions on which set up would be louder and or clearer. Thanks Mike |

Loud audio is not the whole picture. Good clean crisp audio is what you want and the Magnum can produce the kind of audio most people like to listen to, from what I've been reading in the reports on the Magnum it seems to be a very good choice and at a right price for all that this radio does. I feel that the radio is by far under priced. Plus with the new audio circuit that Magnum has, I think you'll find you'll want nothing more than a good quality noise canceling microphone on this new top quality radio. |

The Magnums have speech processors (compression) built in so they win. You'd have to add a speech processor to the Uniden for it to sound as loud - which is possible to do if you like the radio you already have. |

Those unidens had some kicking audio, I wouldnt buy a new radio til I checked the setup out. I have heard that the 257's recieve is suspect. Rich |
