dx431, the dx250 owners manual basically says:
use #10 or larger wire & hookup direct to battery, for AM-
BOTH orange & yellow buttons IN gives LOWEST output
yellow ONLY IN is next higher level
orange ONLY IN is 3rd highest level
BOTH orange & yellow OUT is HIGHEST power
for SSB, use ONLY with yellow button IN
white button IN turns rcv preamp ON, & it works with xmit amp off
meter is 'relative output' only-so check your 4 stages on a watmeter, see where they read on texas star meter, & use it as a guide.
class AB1, 3.8-30mhz, 10db preamp, 13.6volts @ 20 amps, AM/FM/SSB operation, 4 watt maximum input, 2-2sc2290 transistors, 175-300 watts pep output.
their owners manual is just a sheet of paper! now, as with almost ALL amps, their wattage ratings are a bit optimistic, w/3-4 dk & 8-9 swing you should get 80-90 dead key and about 150 swing on AM and about 150 on SSB with 12-15 watts from the radio.
texas star-reliable, dependable and pretty tough. one of the best "mass produced" amps out there. you never make a mistake with a texas star.

Patzoreozero, thanx a bunch. That helps.
One other question, are the instructuons the same for the export version?
I did some research and I'm guessing the one we have is the export version(EX250). The reason I say this is that the export version all the buttons are labeled power-preamp-am-ssb the dx version they are NOT. and it is pushing 250w. But whats confusing is it's labeled as a DX250????

the only different dx250's are the 'old' no mod needed and the newer 'cw transmitter' ones that just need the oscillator board removed. there's also the hdv (high drive variable) version that i believe only on the 250 & 350 has 3 switches & the ssb switch is on the back of the amp(that's how my dx350hdv is).(power red, preamp white, am orange, ssb yellow). 400 & 500 still have yellow ssb switch on front. as does 667v, which is variable only, not high drive.
hate to ruffle feathers this way, so no offense intended, my dx350 can be made to show (w/3-4w dk) 250-300watts dead key & 500 watts swing on a dosy meter. in real world, on bird or diamond, w/3w grant xl, it shows 120dk & 240 sw, more believable #'s. putting 7 or 8 watts dk into it i could probably get closer to the dosy's readings, a few times til -POOF! with 2-2sc2290, 80 watt rated transistors, the dx250 is probably closer to 150 real world watts.
remember, i can use my 120/240 real world watts in my mobile & outtalk my neighbor who's using 300 in a base, so, if it works, what the # really is is irrelavent! JUST HAVE FUN!!!

There are no switches on the back of this amp. There are, however, 4 switches on the front. Power red,Preamp white, Am orange,SSB yellow. And they are labled as such.
Getting back to my origional question.....Are the instructions the same for the DX as the Ex? I'm guessing they are.
