Hey 307,
I read your review on this product, and I have a question. You mentioned that when the switching takes place that the input is connected to the antenna. Does this mean that there is no simultaneous connection to both inputs, and the antenna for receive ? Or does the switch really just disconnect one of the inputs when RF is sensed by the other ? I would hope that you could have receive with both radios that are connected to this switch, and the switch would just disconnect one of the radios while the other is in transmit. Otherwise this switch would only be practical for a test bench, and only for working transmit functions. Please clear this up for me. I would like to place a order.

I got my hands on one finally, and found that it does not connect the antenna to both radios for simultaneous receive. It just switches in the antenna when one of the radios are keyed, and will switch to the other radio if it is keyed. I guess it is still handy, but having both radios receiving at the same time would have been much more fun. The manufacturer states on the packaging that "It is equipped with a specially designed relay which enables to receive both receivers simultaneously" It just dont work that way. I tested 3 of these, and they all worked the same way. Too bad...

Applejack From what I can tell the radio on the closed circuit will be the one to receive. You would, apparently, have to key the other radio to switch the relay. It appears the relay would be on one or the other. There does'nt appear to be a "neutral" position.

yes i understand that keying switching part, but when both radios are first turned on and neither keyed do both receive or both not receive???

both would have to receive. there is no switch on it to control it. thats the whole point of the as-100 is to not know what radio your going to use until you key it.

What I am saying is it contains a 2(TWO) position relay. When you hook it up for the very first time it will be in one position or the other. One radio will receive and one will not. Which one depends on the position of the relay during assembly at the factory. It will only let the signal pass to one receiver at a time fate and the installer will decide where it goes.

okay! that's the answer i was trying to get. right now i have a maco model 45 co ax switch in the basement connecting 1 radio on the first floor and 1 on the second floor. the 1 on the first is the primary use one, and the switch is set for it, but good or bad due to the nature of the maco switch i still have some receive, at least of strong signals, on the 2nd radio.

but hey it works just fine. I have had one for about 6 weeks and am real glad to have it. my radio setup is the same, plus i DO HAVE receive on both radios at the same time right or wrong. when i turn the radio on the receive is somewhat muted on both radios but one tap of the key and its up to full receive.

the AS100 is rated to take 100 watts. does the company that makes it make one that will take more power, or does anyone know of another company that does?

Applejack,

Doing a Search in the copper forum here for AS100 I found the following:

» AS100 switch - 2 radios active at the same time?

So I guess your question was already answered in another Topic back on June 26, 2002 - 1:16 pm:.

Over "5" years ago.

Isn't the Search feature GREAT!

HOW MUCH POWER !!!!! , there are antenna switches out there that DO handle high power it just depends on how much you want to pay , how many coax connections you need , how much power you want to put through it .

No, There is no manufacturers out there that make them that will handle more than 100 watts. To clarify this, this means no automatic switches!

Applejack,

If you were asking about an Antenna Switch for Antennas ie: 1 radio to more than 1 antenna then Jim/Tech858 is 100% correct in his post above.

So YES, there are AUTOMATIC Antenna Switches out there that WILL handle MORE than 100 watts.

But they are NOT cheap.

Do a GOOGLE search for:

AS-204 DC - 600MHz. 4 Port Electronic AntennaSwitch

It is an AUTOMATIC 4 Port Electronic Antenna Switch.

The AS-204 Mast Mounted Antenna Switch along with the supplied AC-204 controller alllows automatic antenna selection between a common feedline and 4 antennas.

No additional interface cables are required because all switching logic and control voltages are supplied by the AC-204 via the feedline.

Simply connect the AC-204 to your rig or linear amplifier, your coax between the AC-204 and the AS-204 and you have 4 port antenna selection at your finger tips.

FEATURES:
3.5MHz. - 600MHz.
4 Port Selection allows switching between the Common Port and four other Ports
High Power Operation:
1.5KW PEP at 13.5 - 30.0MHz.
800 Watts PEP at VHF
600 Watts PEP at UHF
Type - N Female or S-239 Connectors (specify)
Low Insertion Loss:
0.25dB at 500MHz.
Requires 13.8VAC

Hope this help's,

Jim,
after reading the thread,it sounds to me like Applejack is asking about a different kind of switch. The as-100 would let you run 2 radios on 1 antenna at the same time. And what he is looking for is one that will handle higher power levels than the as-100(100 watt).one that will automatically switch to the active radio.

I have an Ameritron remote switcher, you can switch between 4 different antennas just by using the one feed line.I have run close to 700 watts through it and it performed flawlessly.

After having worked as a radio communications engineer for a number of years I can say that there are "AUTOMATIC COAXIAL SWITCHES" for using multiple radios with one antenna that handle powers up to 1kw these are not your run of the mill switches and are used in the UK Coastguard's radio installations and other government based installs , they are manufactured by the likes of Motorola , Simoco , Phillips and a few other manufacturers , that is why I said what I said in my post , it is all a question of "HOW MUCH ??" Maybe sort of rediculous prices for use with CB radio but to say there are "NO" manufacturers out there is incorrect
