My friend has a couple 2510s and swears by them. I know they are not available in the US anymore, so what is available that can be modded to CB band and have alot more channels.

I had a 148F-gtl and loved it. but I wish it had 10 meter.

So, which 10 meter radio can be modded to have 11 meter?

I believe you can still get the President Lincoln, which is the next generation of the 2510. Looks exactly like it...

Almost all "export 10 meter radios" can be modded for 11 meter use.

The Emperor TS-5010 is much like the hr2510, except, the Emperor's frequency range when expanded receives past 29.900 (on an hr2510). The Galaxy radios tend to have more "toys" ie. Echo, reverb, etc. Ranger radios have higher power, higher and lower frequency range (basicly more options).

So, I'd say go with the Emperor if your trying to get something just like the hr2510. On the other hand, if you want more power and options ..go with the ranger radios. :-) Goodluck!

Personally I don't care for the 2510 or a Lincoln.

Why would you want a radio with a single conversion receiver? Might as well just buy a 23 channel sidebander and add tons of crystals.. will receive just as well, but 2510's do talk well I guess.

Better off with the new Ranger RCI 2950DX.
It has a dual conversion receiver and all the componets are now surface mount, which makes the radio much more reliable against vibration, not to mention even more stable then they already were.

Perhaps the newer 2950s are a little better than in the past, but....

In the SSB arena, among others, I've owned a Ranger 2950, a couple of Galaxys, a Superstar, Cobra 2000, 140GTL, 148GTL, Midlands of various flavors, a GE Superbase, a President Washington, 2 Silty 1011Ds, a TRS Challenger, and 2 HR2510s, and would put the HR2510 receive sensitivity and selectivity up against ANY other comparably priced radio, including any Ranger, Galaxy, Superstar, etc. on the market.

I've put the Ranger side by side with a 2510, listening to the same stations on the same antenna. The 2510 pulled out stuff the Ranger couldn't even hear. It wasn't a deaf Ranger. Other guys in the same area couldn't hear them on their Rangers either and used to think I was full of crap and ghosttalking until they actually saw the 2510 in action or finally were able to pull the guy out after I had been talking for 15 minutes with no prob.

I've carried on lengthy QSOs on all modes, from coast to coast, all over Europe and South Pacific, barefoot mobile with a base loaded Larsen NMO whip on a HR2510 in Oklahoma. For overall receive ability, the 2510 pretty much rules, especially in the selectivity when the band is popping. In fact, I am currently looking for a clean working Uniden 2510 to replace "another" radio in my shack. I shoulda kept the last one I had. Don't take this wrongly, because the 2950 IS a good rig, but in no way is the receive better than a 2510, nor was it ever constructed better. Just my opinion.

707,

I have to agree with you! My HR2510 has been in and out of four or five vehicles, banged around, and it still does what it did the day it came out of the box (7 years ago).

The receive is awesome and it's the punchiest transmitter I have ever owned or operated.

If you find some 2510 parts (I need the case covers and a coupla knobs) let me know!

Steve

I have a Uniden 2510 and it has sat on a shelf since I bought it. I occasionally turn it on. I bought it brand new with the conversion and a slider. I use to enjoy listening to the skip talk on the 10 meter. I hooked and old turner desk mike on the Uniden. I have 2 turners one is the gray paddle mike and the other is the Gold one.My Big Stick antenna got hit by lightning and my computer and scanner got fried but the power pack saved my precious Uniden from the blow. ( I was holding the Coaxe having just unplugged it from the radio and a flash of light knocked me over)I haven't put up an antenna since. The Big stick antenna said ya did not have to ground it ( Wrong Move)If you have any such stories let me know.Someday I will hook up my 2510 and see whats buzzing on air.I am glad Copper has this board and I will read it whenever I can

All good radios but the Magnum 257 is just as good and cheaper. Sold mine and got Omega Force, but I actually liked the 257 better. Both great radios.
