I just bought a Courier Conqueror 40D for $25.
When I key the mic the needles goes backwards all the way. There is a lot of static also.
Any ideas would be great. I would like to see this base working like it should.
Thanks. Mike

Sounds like a grounding or bad coax issue as to where you are getting way to much RF coming back into your radio. what are your swr reading?

Possibly that age of radio has a relay for switching TX\RX if it has there is a possibility it is not working properly as I have an old 23ch Royce base radio that had the same symptoms which I cured with a new relay , or as Starface said , it could be grounding or RF

The radio could be peaked to much which doesn't leave enough room for the carrier to be modulated properly.Try backing it down a bit and see if the forward swing improves, works for me.

ok, thank you guys. here we go. i turned it on this morning. just thought about moving the antenna to another location. it is a magnet mount mobile for testing the radio. i put it about 5 feet from where it was before. stuck to a metal rack mount case sitting on my floor. what a huge difference. a little bit of static coming from the controls when turning but thats normal. needle goes forward. thats normal to. lol. it seems to want to warm up a little. it also has a distint smell like dust burning. just kidding. it does have that old radio smell though. now, how can i change that clock to a frequency display. why? why not.
i still have 2 rci 2950's and 1 midland powermax still sitting dead on my desk. can't figure them our. sad day.
thanks again. mike
