OK I bought a 2950> I love it it's great. But I don't know much about it. When the power is on low it will key about 2 watts or so and swing maybe 3 or 4. On a watt meter you would think it's just a regular cb. I read on another web site that you can turn the power pot inside and it will key 3 and swing 35. Has anybody had any experience with this radio.

best thing to do is do a google search for "RCI 2950 mods" or something to that effect.
then spend the next two days reading all the pages with different mods on them. make sure at least two different sites have the exact same mod info before attempting one.
lots and lots on the net for this radio.
good luck,
matt

Audiophile73, Look to your left and click "modification list" Find your radio and it will show you the power adjustments.

Audiophile73,

The Alignment / Adjustment's listed in the Modification List are the most up to date information direct from the RangerUSA Website for all 2950/2950DX and 2970/2970DX Models.

As Ranger USA makes Revisions and sends them to me or Updates thier Alignment Information on the Ranger USA Web Site I add/correct them in the Modification List as I receive them.

One more thing Audiophile73, It just clicked that you say your only getting 3 or 4 watts swing set to low power? Have you checked it on AM and SSB? Whats it doing on high power? Best to use a dummy load if you have one.
I like to use my low power setting for my amplifier and use the high power setting when I want to go barefoot.

Thats pretty mush what I am doing. And yes these results were taken on a dummy load. On high it will key 10 and swing maybe 15 when I talk. On the low setting it will key about 2 and when I talk it will swing 3, maybe a little more. But it's like it's hitting a brick wall. I don't know what to think, I see guys write online about how their 2950 keys 3 and swings 25. But I thought double the carrier is a fully modulated signal. I just want the best audio I can get thats all.

You usualy do well to set the low power to 1 watt and the high power to whatever you can get cleanly out of the radio something between 20-40 watts. Then you leave the RF power knob set to the 12 O'Clock positon and let the radio swing. You need to adjust the knob on the radio all the way down when setting low power and all the way up while setting the high power. Rember these radio's are not useing the most stout finals even though they have dual finals. I have not worked onthe new DX model of 2950 but all of the photo's of the board clearly show taht all of the pots are labeled as to their funtion. To do a really good job you should adjust the tank circuit to maximize power across the radio's bandwidth but this is not required if you are only useing a small chunk of a band.

The old 2950 if all of the limters were left in place rocked with an Astatic D104M6B power mic. The stock mic that comes on these radio's really does not do it justice!

i turned the mod pot all the way up and adjusted high power and alc and ssb power all the way up and low power adjusted for 1 watt in the full counterclockwise position. i key 1 watt and swing 25 or so with a astatic d104m6c and note i have not nor will i clip any limiters. which i might add runs a kl 203 quite nicely with a deadkey of 40 swings 180-210 or so. ;)
