Hi. OK, Well I have the double coil 22" shaft predator. Good so far. Odd enough, I had to trim so much off the whip, that the length from the base of the antenna to the part where the whip gets inserted is longer than the whip itself. I have 1:2 SWR with this antenna.
I just acquired a 27" shaft single coil predator from a friend. I didn't have to trim the whip as much, and I have the SWR literally 1:0. There is absolutely no movement whatsoever. It is flat SWR.
So my question is, which antenna "gets out" more? I'm thinking the single coil 27" only because the coil is slightly higher (27" compared to 22"), and it only has 1 coil instead of 2. Also, it's overall length is a bit longer than the 2 coil. Is there significant differences in "getting out" between the 2 models? Thanks.
PS--yes, there will be a 667 in use with either antenna. Thanks. |

IT WILL DEPEND ON YOUR MOUNTING , BUT THEY BOTH SHOULD WORK BASICALLY THE SAME . JUST CURIOUS , ON YOUR 27 SINGLE COIL , WHAT IS YOUR OVERALL LENGTH SINCE YOU TUNNED IT ? |

Mounted dead center on top of truck roof. I will measure it tomorrow and find out. It is the antenna mounted to a heavy duty quick release, which in turn is connected to a heavy duty pot belly spring, which in turn is connected to the predator lug style mount. i noticed absolutely no difference between my single or double coil. the single coil is 3" or so longer. that's why i went to the double. i took about 16" or 18" off the double's stinger. the stinger is just a hair shorter then the rest of the antenna. SWR's were 1.1:1 on either. on a mag mount  . |

im told at a site that carrys them the 27inch single coil tunes the best out them all and performance should be about the same. |

Yes, this single coil definetly tunes the best. I mean literally flat flat flat SWR 1- 40. The meter doesn't even move. For a minute I thought the meter was no good. I used 4 different meters, and completly flat on all meters. The double coil was close. I got 1:1 to 1:2.5 across 40 channels on the double.
This single coil is a bit longer overall, and I am hitting trees a little more. But every little ounce of energy, length and SWR helps when trying to talk DX. Thanks. |
