Kid a while back you explained to me about the rx mod for this radio by using 2999 and some schottky diodes.I am hoping that you can refresh my memory on this one? I need a source for these parts also.

here is a quote of the mod from the old thread:
Capt. radio, GOOD NEWS!!!

i found a schem. of your radio TRC451, and you can do the mod to it.
you want to replace TR12 with the 2SC2999 or NTE107, and tune L3 and L4 for max. S unit reading.
i sort of tune for max. sound from the speaker along with the max. S-unit on the meter.
these adjustments will vary widely with just a small turn of the coil's ferrite core, so move very slowly and controlled, and always use the right plasitc tool. if you break the core, you have to unsolder the whole can, unscrew it from the bottom, and put it back in upside down, and then for sure you will tune it with the right tool!LOL
later,
matt

Tnx Kid, well there is a guy in the UK that sent me a similar mod but he said something about using the tr that was replaced by the 2999 and using it someplace else , lost his email.I also remember him saying about replacing the detector diodes and the noise blanker diodes with shottky diodes, unforunatly iam going by memory thats not as good as it used to be. Do you have any further info on this?
Tnx Bob CEF451
