Hello all,
Just got a new kl 500 and wondering about which 2 pins to short out? The HY magazine says pin 1&2, problem is, the diagram gives you no idea what ones ARE pin 1&2??? See my problem. I rang and they said that looking down on the amp with the pins on your left, you need to short out the bottom 2 pins, can anyone clarify this 100%, and also I am using a mag 257, how much should I turn the power level down to?
Cheers

The 4 pins should run front to rear. Short the rear two pins. You can carefully test by using insulated fine needle nose pliers holding the rear two together. Turn on, key for a second. If it keys with power increase and no chatter you're in business. After mod is complete set radio to 2w carrier. Adjust amp to full on (6). Key and look for a 100-125w carrier. If it is different than that adjust radio until you achieve the 100-125w carrier. I don't recommend exceeding 150w carrier. Supply the amp with 8ga wire for + and - using fine stranded wire, fuse at battery with 40-50a fuse.

Hey Tech671,
The pins actually run side to side ie NOT front of unit towards back of amp! mmm... They run parallel with the 3 fuse holders, so I am still unclear? Any more ideas as I am sure someone out there must have one of these model amps.
I appreciate all the help!
Cheers

ok, amp upside down, cover off, switches facing you, antenna connectors away from you, pins run left to right correct?

Hello,

Does this mean the amp will not work if none of the pins are closed/shorted? Or does it mean that the amp will work on diff frequency ranges pending on which pins are shorted? Thanks in advance.

Wow,
How weird!!! I sent this in over a year ago and now it is being replayed...am I on syndication now???? COOL...I feel like Seinfeld!! We could have the "Best Of Questions" for 2002 and hand out awards etc eh?
Okay, I am out of here, I feel very special, and oh yes... I did get my KL 500 working okay, and it kicks butt!! I look forward to the next "best of Letter" installment.
Cheers
