Is the "new" 257 out yet? Any word on the ssb power? Anything good on this updated model or is it just the finals?

Has the new 257 been released yet? Was wondering on the power output and if it could be still turned down to run a small 2 pill?

Flush,

When they are in stock and ready to be ordered and shipped I will make a post in the OPEN area of the Copper Forum and here in the Manufacturer's Area.

UPDATE!

After just getting off the phone with Sam Lewis he recommends using any amp that has 4 2SC2879's and NO Driver stage with the ERF 2030 Magnum 257.

The carrier can be reduced to 1 watt but the PEP will still be 35 to 40 watts.

While a 2 pill might be ok for SSB use it would need / (recommended) 4-2879's for AM use.

No there is no difference internally between the 2 radios except the 257 has the ERF-2030 mosfet final and support components instead of the 1969 final.

so now is magnum gonna discontinue the 30 watt magnum?

Moderator Note!

Yes the 1969 final version #1 & #2 of the Magnum 257's have been discontinued with the production of the Version #3 of the ERF-2030 mosfet model 257's.

Just wondering what the max carrier to expect with a 50 watt pep ? Also is the 50 watts realistic or advertising hype? I already own two of the 30 watt models and they dead key 10 watts and 35 pep. Very happy with them and considering buying a new one if it is as rated.
