I have alot of frying noise with my mag in the house. Right in the middle of the 0 and the 5 on the signal meter constantly. If i switch bands it goes away or lessens considerably. Is this normal or do i have a problem? This frying noise is driving me nuts. Help!

Bags,

No it is not typically normal generally but what you may be hearing is white noise due to lack of condition's which is affecting all of us.

Do you have your S-680 grounded to the same SINGLE POINT GROUND as your Coax & Antenna?

Is your Squelch set at -0- and does it go away if you raise the squelch setting?

With radio condition's the way they have been in this sunspot cycle you may have to set your squelch at 5 or higher to get rid of the white noise.

But then you take the chanmce of missing far out contact's.

Thanks for the quick responce. I guess I don't have a SINGLE POINT GROUND. Here's what I have, my antenna (imax 2000) on a 45 foot tower, coax (RG8/U-95 foam) coming down under the house and straight in to my dosy test center. My radio is grounded on the black stud of my Palomar Deluxe 35A and it's plugged in the wall. The squelch works just fine, it must be set at 11 oclock to knock out the frying white noise.

I do know that some of the noise is coming from my computer, but i can turn it off and i still get that noise. I don't get any of that noise with my 2510 in the house. I'm thinking that the filtering is not quite as good in the magnum. But it could be a grounding issue. Any help you can give would be much appreciated Lon.
