Does anyone know what the RV adjustments are on the S-9? I would like to play a little with mine. |

they see your pic, bc & 'WARRANTY RISK' immediately comes to mind. my buddy in CT, who got a deal on a used & unloved S9 that he proceeded to heavily mod, & then blow up at least twice, says there are a few things that can be done, & should lessen the chance of destruction. i've been waiting for 2 months now to get a chance to run up there, but with the change of weather(maybe someday?)he needs to come to LI for an amp install or 2. then i'll be able to see what may increase performance of the S9. |

'warranty', Iluvrf, sam ain't talkin'!!! from what i understand, though, about the only performance increases that do not compromise the radio are just getting a true 45 watts of swing out of it. i see that some key up & DO swing 40+ watts, some key up & only swing 15 or so. my buddy picked up a 2nd one, used, & took a good look at it, had it keying 20 & swinging over 65 watts. the finals blew. he replaced 'em & tried some other mods to get it 'up there' & blew 'em again. he's got it doing 2-15 dead key & 45 pep on a bird, & the audio does appear to be louder then mine, though he's about 70 miles away, so it's kinda hard to do a decent comparison. he's a hardcore AMer, builder of big amps, but does SSB in the base, to avoid tvi issues, & purchased 1 only upon hearing the receiver on my S9 on SSB. he felt the 'topgun' set up was ALL hype, but was so impressed with the receive he figured it was worth a try. when the chance to get a used 1 very cheap came about, he jumped on it with the intention of seeing what could be done to the transmit. as it's turning out, in truth, apparently once you get a true 45 watt pep out of it-THAT'S IT!!! |

Hopefully I will have all of the information by the end of the week for All Magnum Models to post in the Modification Area for the Copper Forum Members. I just got off the phone with Sam Lewis and he is sending all of the Schematics and all of the POL (Point of Location) & Alignment RV's out today to me for all Magnum Models. Hope this helps, Lon Tech808 CEF808 N9OSN |

tech, I think that maybe the little boxes refer to the controls on the front of the radio seeing how they are not on the circuit themselves. |

If outside looks are anything to go by the S-9 might have a lot of common circuitry with one of the galaxy range of radios |

Somebody is gonna have to write those teenagers over in the Phillippines that made them and find out the adjustments. That's where my Magnum was made anyway. |

I guess most electronics are made in that part of the world now. That was my Magnum Omega Force that was made in the Phillippines. I just looked at some boxes, Connex and General Lee were made in Malaysia. My Galaxy Saturn made in Taiwan, ROC, and my old Ranger 3300 was made in Japan. I can remember way back there when people thought that things made in Japan were not any good, man they've come a long way. |

I have posted several times now that I would be happy to post the information when I receive it. You can contact Sam direct at: 1-877-624-6869 Until he supplies me or Copper Electronics with the information then there is nothing we can do. And since there is no other web site that has this information you will have access to it First here on the Copper Forum when it becomes available. Sorry, Lon Tech808 CEF808 N9OSN

if you don't know the adjustments, it has to go to the authorized service center. not a money making gimic in the sense of paying to get it fixed, but a money saving device for the people responsible for covering the warranty. you could always go in & turn what's labeled, trash the radio & tell magnum 'i didn't do it'. knowing them, they'll just fix it & take the loss, or a good part of it at least. as S9's original 1 yr warranties are beginning to expire, they have a bit more leverage in charging for repairs to a radio that may have been screwdrivered. in time, all the adjustments will come out. |

what i am thinking would probably be rejected by the moderators. in short, those who NEED to know have the info, is it a big deal that it's not available to 'us'? not really. sooner or later it'll come out. & i suppose if 1 of us really sat & looked at the schematics for a few minutes, we could figure which pots are for what. or at least the power, modulation, & meter settings. take the schematics & another radio you have, open 'em up, find the 'AM POWER' pot on the schematic & in the 'other' radio, go to the S9 schematic & look for circuitry in the xmit section that's similarly set up. you could probably match 'em all up that way, with a little bit of time. my S9 works fine as it is. when it can't get out i try the icom. or go mobile & flip the remote switch for the davemade m400. if i still can't get out, it's time to do something else! |
