Nope...Replace both small transistors (most likely 2N4401 or 2N2907). This will fix the problem... 307 |

I Sent You A Message Through Email. Someone worked on this amp and they did somthing to fix the problem but did not work. Im not sure if he did this but. I Looked at the schematics on there site and they are 2 2n4125 But in mine there is one of the 2n4125 and there is a 2n5227 could that be a Problem. |

307 youve had too much eggnog HE HE HE the 2907 and 2222 are widely used and depenable transistors my question was how come they would be failing unless it was a design flaw. Otherwise i thought it sounded like pitted relay contacts Bruce |

this is a known problem with -all- amps of this type. there is no protection circuit in these amps to protect the pre-amp trans so a strong signal from a nearby txer will take them out. hooking the coax up backwards can sometimes take the pre-amp out also if the pre-amp is on when radio is keyed(while coax is connected backwards). |

They can have a diode juction shorted or open and be good from E-B , C-B , but E-C is shorted...Very common in Texas Star amps...Back to the Egg Nog...Hick-up 307 |

ss8541 307 said to put in 2n4401 transistors. I did so but I am not sure if I put then in the legs right. I just matched up the way the transistor looked on the board. The amp keys OK but the receive is low. Are these the protection transistors? THANKS |

No , They are not protection transistors. sounds like you solved the "key" problem , when you turn on the RX amp , do you see "more S units" on the meter, just not what you think you should see? The new Texas Star amps use 2N4401's. It should work 307 |

The Key Worked. The Amp Gets out great. It Does What its supposed to in wattage .. the problem is when i touch the ssb light to turn on the meter light the Receive goes almost dead and when i turn off the amp the receive comes back on. |

I have seen it before where a "button" set of contacts was not making and it caused the same problem you described...The answer ? Get it fixed... I can do it for you if you email me at tech307@copperelectronics.com 307 |
