Hello all,
Just a quick one, does everyone know that Joe Walsh (lead guitarist , singer, rock-god) is a licensed ham?? Saw his promo for Heil mics in the CQ magazine. Now, if magazines such as CQ etc did an interview with him about his hobby, they might get the idea across to people that there are some cool people who are hooked on radios, not just the stereo type nerd image radio guy. Mind you, I don't regard "myself" as a nerd, I am a muso who plays in a major Las vegas rock showband but I love radio, antennas, new gear, gadgets etc etc...(so in that respect I am a HUGE nerd!! ha ha)
Anyone know the background on Joe's connection to this hobby?? Why aren't radio mags doing stories on these higher profile operators instead of the same old plumbers crack guy with coke bottle glasses, moustache, and are as interesting as PBS in the off season! Yep, that's the way to get new blood into the hobby eh? Bore 'em to death!!
Cheers
Andrew

I learned that Joe was a ham a few years back. You can see his picture and read some info about him on Heil's website. Patty Loveless is also a ham operator.

Hey sorry guys,
I didn't mean to insult moustache people, I actually had one too a while back (actually a beard) when I wasn't gigging, and yes PBS is usually pretty good! I should have said ...as interesting as to what Ben and J.LO are up to this minute...etc, now THAT is bloody boring! I subscribe to CQ mag and it is usually really bland and boring, like it is written for 90 year olds, at least the adds are good though! I also apologise for any one with plumbers crack... just guarding myself you know.
...I wasn't knocking it, or putting it down...I just said it and now there's all this!...

Sixtiesmania Maybe i came across the wrong way myself. I thought your post was kinda funny. You did not insult me one bit.In fact i read my post, Its not what i meant to say. Im what you call a babyboomer,Kids born after wourld war 2. My genration went to war also. (lost a lot of Freinds)At any rate in the late sixties we called some of the elders the older establishment,or Squares. And that what i think caused the generation Gap at the time. Now IM the OLDER ESTABLISHIMENT. I see things i a diffirent light, I have a grandkids old enought to understand we are at war after (9-11_01).Yes i had hair down to my mid back a beard, Now i wish i had hair on top of my head. Now Im the Nerd with trifocals. But i can talk to you and laugh with you. That means we just made a good freindship i hope? Im sorry if my post came across the wrong way. Take care. Lowpowerhal ( as far as music it makes this old earth go round and round- just like a heartbeat) We all have differnt drums so to speak,I have mine, You have yours.) Just my message to all.

Hey mate!
No problems at all, I love having a laugh at myself and funny things. Yes I am a nerd BUT I keep telling my girlfriend there are lots of nerds on the radio who are really thought of as "cool" ha ha.. It's funny , I worked with Stu Cook of CCR a few times (a great guy too by the way people!, not one of these untalented flash in the pan I love myself type star) and I had no idea both he and his wife are licenced hams? God, instead of talking about R&R history I could have asked him about his favourite yagi, or what his thoughts are on these freebanding types!! Now , if I meet Donny Osmond (who I think is a real talented , nice guy) I WILL ask him about his radio set-up!!
Can you believe Priscilla Presely was a licensed ham?????

Cheers ALL
