Hello Forum,
I have a Ranger 2995dx base modified for CB./
I'm having trouble with man-made noise killing
my recieve on my Imax 2000./
1st, i have a factory about 150 yards away with
large groups of transformers which cause a buzzing
noise everyday./ Tracked it down using a mobile unit./
2nd, i got static out the butt filling my reciever
since the weather has changed./ If it warms up to a 40 degrees or better or rains, bad static stops./ Have no idea yet what that is./ Not coming from inside my home as i checked./
Would a good DSP FILTER work to slow static down?
I use AM and SSB on CB Freq. If DSP FILTER may work, what is a good model to buy???? THANKS!

Jim i have 3 radioshack DSP filters and my ft-100d has a factory installed one TO BE HONSET I dont find them to be highly effective in killing static type noise.
BY LAW ( part 15 )
You have a right to complain about the noise comming from this factory.

They do not have a right to generate noise that interfers with your radio. |

Because you can easily recieve the noise maybe something like an MFJ-1026 would work better. It gets rid of noise by receiving it with a 2nd antenna and uses phasing to null it out. |

I was looking at the MFJ-784B DSP Filter
as a option, but, i was afraid to shell out
the dollars for it, if it's not going to be effective. ($249.00)

I have not found them to be a real aid except on cw and on cw they shine. As for phasing out noise it might be worth a try ..... IF .... you can return the filter if it dosn't work. |

I agree with Bruce...Heterodynes they kill pretty good...but if you've got a front end overload (or near it)....good luck. |

I have had the same trouble over the years. Everything from Flourescent lights nearby to Wal-Marts automatic doors to a welding facility within a 1 block radius I haven't found a dang thing that really works well to get rid of static. It really blows all 40 channels out on me some days. I've been looking for a solution for 10 years. If you find it, please let me know..... |

I agree with Kirk and Bruce, the RS audio DSP I have isn't worth much except for getting rid of heterodynes on SSB - and it does that nicely. It does get rid of some noise, but not much. I find the bandwidth adjustments more useful than the DSP, and I often turn off the DSP and just use the narrower bandwidths. Of course it's not exactly a high end unit, and others might work better. |

Jim no problem line noise is killing me too here its very wide spread which is why i bought thoes DSP filters ......... Sometimes it gets so bad i feel like choping down the power pole ...... But i cant peddle the generator bike fast enought. |
