Is there a way to run a KL-203 as a temporary set up... for example slip seating. Let's say I want to run my KL-203 in my work truck, but I change trucks often. How could I use my amp during working hours, and take it out at the end of the day? |

Some kind of a quick-disconnect would work if you drive the same few trucks. Hide a line under the dash that you plug into each time. Beyond that you would need a dedicated 20 amp outlet or acessory line. Even then your at the limit of what will work. |

If you cig plug has enough juice just use it, otherwise use a quick disconnect power wire. Very simple. |

I thought I could use the lighter outlet, but I wasn't sure. I bet a heavy duty power cord would work pretty good. |

I got a heavey duty cord at a truck stop and wired the radio and amp to it,as far as enough juice goes, most trucks since the mid to late 90's have 20 amps at the cig plug and that is plenty to run a radio and KL200P. Mike |

That reminds me... I read an article here about radios needing heavier gauge wire after being peaked and tuned due to more current draw. So I bought a heavy duty power cord for my General Lee in my semi, and the lights still dim during transmit. Could this be because the power wires that are provided in the semi are still too thin? |

Cb, In our 2000 Pete 379 we had to go direct to batteries or we would fire off the flashers and spike the gauges and dim the lights and fire the brake lights off. In our 2000 KW L-800 we also had to go direct to the batteries to avoid problems with the computer and every time I keyed the mic the Pass side turn signals would flash. And our Chicken lights would flash like a Rolling Billboard for Viagra. You would not believe how many other drivers would holler hey are you ever going to turn? I ran 10 Gauge direct to the 2970DX and when we ran the AMP I had 8 gauge from the batteries for it. Big trucks were designed by some person who never ever used a CB or Ham radio in his life and figured everyone would use a Little Cobra or Uniden 4 watt radio and nothing else and come from the factory with the poorest excuse for coax and antennas there is. Ok I am done now. hehehe Lon |

I hear ya Lon. Well, since my last post I took out the General Lee, and put in a Cobra 25 NW WX ST and a KL-203. Everything seems cool except for some engine noise coming thru the radio speaker. I guess I'll be buying a noise filter. Has anyone else had this problem with the newer Cobra radios? |

Yes I have had problems with Cobras even with the new switch that supposedly removes 90% of the noise. I went back to a Galaxy then later tried a Mirage and both are clear as a bell with no noise like the cobra. |

I understand that engine noise is a prolem with the new Cobra radios... like the Sound Tracker models. I put a Cobra 29 WX ( without Sound Tracker ) in the same truck, and had no problem. |
