Can somebody tell me, besides the fact that everyone selling this mic says they are donating so much to military families, why it's so much? A certain other place is selling the standard 636L for 17.95 and the Stars & Stripes version is 49.95. Same mic, different covers. What gives? I want this mic cause it's the best looking Astatic (to me) that they have. I like the performance of their mics, but wish they'd redesign the thing cause I think they're ugly. Now I like the RK56, but I've had a few and they worked very well on one radio I had and changed it over onto another one and it stunk. It sounded real muffled. Put it back on my other radio, and it was 10-8 and straight. |

Therealporkchop, Maybe the Custom Paint design, and chrome grill, chrome key and the Indestructable super-flex Aluminum Cord add to the price? I did notice that all of the mics below are the same price $39.99 here at Copper. To view them all CLICK HERE Lon Tech808 CEF808 N9CEF CVC#2 |

PorkChop, You think the Astatic 636 is ugly? I kinda like them and fits in the hand real nice! Now the road king.....thats one disturbingly FUGLY mic. I say fugly cause ugly is only half as bad as fugly. The RK56 just may be in the top 3 of most fugliest mics ever! The Astatic is beutiful man! Its like jewlery for your radio! Young people might say, "That mic is pimp!" |

Well, I first had a RK56 and I kinda liked it. Yeah, it's a funny looking mic, but look in the member pictures section at me on that 4 wheeler and tell me which one looks funnier... I got rid of my 56 cause it sounded great on one radio and the others it sucked. So I went with the 636L. I've got probably 4 or 5 of the regular ones, but the new Stars&Stripes is a great looking mic. I love the colors and all, but it's something about the shape of the Astatic mics. I kinda like the switch on the other side where I can use my thumb. I guess it's what you get use to using? But yes, between the 56 and 636 S&S, the Stars win hands down. |

Oh no. I wouldn't tell you that. The only time I believe I've ever said anything like that has been in the Political forum. It would be kinda hard to do that with it hooked to that Gear Keeper. Well, with it hanging in the middle of my truck. |

I see. Gear Keepers can turn a mic into a projectile if not careful! On the package it says let it go....NOT! Maybe they need a warning label? From buying mics with the free gear keepers inside I bet I have at least a dozen of those things.Tried to sale some but ended up giving them away. |

Wish you'd have told me. I would have liked to had them. Well I got this mic the other day. So here is what I think of it. It's a very nice looking mic. The back is chrome plastic which annoys me cause it shows fingerprints. Other than that, it looks good. I love the stars & stripes on the front half of the cover. Very crisp and clear. The grille is chrome and the button, which really make the stars & stripes stand out. It has the solid metal cable on it, which I'm at odds about right now. Kinda bulky cause it's not coiled up like the regular cords. But I like it cause the way I see it, that type cord should stop the annoying cord pulled out of the mic socket problems. Over-all it's a great looking mic. It even made the inside of my truck look better. Somebody told me they couldn't afford a high dollar radio and mic like that. I told them they'd be surprised. It feels lighter to me than the other Astatic mics I've used. The button seems easier to push and feels quieter and more smooth. I like it...probably need to buy another. Ouch..my wife just slapped me. She says she thinks not. When she's around, I be listen'...but soon as she's gone...I'm talkin' again and spendin' my money... |

Gotta learn to duck Chop! When you say "spend money on radio" just duck immediatley. I have the SE model mic with the "Indestuctable" cord. No problems with it besides it hooking my gear shift. Been told that the insides can cut or wear out the wires inside but I doubt it. I'm sure its well insulated inside. Gotta love the smooth switch operation of a new Astatic mic. Mine usually wear out after a year or two and I buy a new one. Now the skips so low I should be good a few years. |

I don't think it is. If anything I think it's a bit shorter myself. I ran it the same route as my standard 636L and it just would reach my big mouth. The other would more than reach, but of course that could be due to the fact that it's coiled and stretches easier. But it is a lot better looking mic. I just re-routed it to reach me and I'm happy as a lark with it. Go ahead and buy one. If you don't like the cord, just have it swapped out. I don't think it would look as good that way, but that's personal preferrence. Plus they give what, 3 bucks to troops families, that's more than Dubya seems to want to do. |

I think the steel is longer. You can really stretch out the coil cord but you got to do it a lot.My back seat passengers can use the steel cord mic with ease. |

Well, maybe so. But I can take pics to show you that in my truck S&S vs L that the standard mic ran the same way as the S&S is longer. I know I'm a crackhead but I'm not blind...haha. |
