I was wondering if it was possible to convert a am/ssb radio to fm? I know you can buy export radios that use fm but i was wondering if you could do it yourself.

I don't know if it is still availble but a company out west makes (made) a kit to add FM to your AM or AM/SSB radio |

CBint doen't make it any more. Now what band do you want to work fm on? the Alinco DR-M03 works great on 10 the DR-M06 works great on 6
The best all around 10 meter radio is a 257 .... hard to beat. |

At the cost of a 2m7, it wouldn't make sense to convert another radio, any longer. Unless you just wanted to do it for "grins"? |

I was going to use it on 10 meter. I kinda thought it would be fun to give it a try to see what happens(for grins). thanks for all the help |

Consider that nearly all the FM activity on 10 meters is through repeaters.
Besides, FM is only legal above 29.5.
Unless you also modify the radio to "split" the receiver frequency from the transmitter, you'll have a simplex-only FM mode. Not too useful, even if you get it all installed and working.
This also assumes that the radio will re-tune and perform a full 2 MHz above the 27 MHz frequencies it was built for. Most CB radios will. Not all. It will be a one-way conversion. Once it's retuned for 29 MHz it won't perform on 27 any more. No CB out there is THAT broad-banded.

Most 10 meter FM is on 29.600 simplex but there is a lot of repeaters too. |

Thanks for the info. I know the 257 is cheap priced(i own one), but i was just wanting to play around. Thats the best part of this hobby. In all honesty I would probaly never even use something like that but it would be neat to say i can  . Anyway thanks for all the info. |

There was a IC chip that allowed a simple board to be built but that chip is no longer made now you CAN add fm but doing it is no easy task MANY cybernet ( HYGAIN 23 CH ) cb were converted in the 70's but it required a bunch of work.
Alinco makes a fine little FM radio the DR-M03 but they are not easy to find. |
