Ok, I've spoke with Pat about this, so I'll list it here and see what you guys think.

I have a M80 DaveMade. My buddy has a 200 DaveMade that needed a wire soldered back in it. While I had his box I thought it would be a good time to convert my box from 2290's to 2879's.

I removed everything from my M80 and replaced it with parts just like what is in the 200. Everything except the transformer that couples to the collector side of the transistors, I am assuming this is the output transformer.

I have changed this to a larger unit, not exactly like what was in the 200, but similiar. I have tried rewinding it, both more and less and nothing helps.

The problem is when I key up the radio and talk or whistle you can hear yourself in the box, like an echo in a barrel. I have swapped out just about all parts except for the 2879's to try to rule out a faulty part. I have even stepped up the relay to a bigger unit and that hasn't changed anything either.

It sounds as though it's coming from the transistors. Does anyone think this is possible? Any input would be appreciated.

Funny I was looking at a buddy's Uniden PC 76XL last night that buzzes like that too, it also sounds like it coming from the transistors. But this radio doesnt work right!

Transistors DO "talk"!!!!!! try this some time, take an old radio, remove the speaker, tune to a strong station and crank the volume all the way up! A lot of times you wll hear people talking! :-) HEHE! i have also had amps that "talked" There may be a biasing issue cousing it or something like that but I can tell you that it is very possible that it is your pills. I think what they are doing is vibrating and that couses the noise. try turning up your dead key a little so there is less swing. That might make a difference.

Well, why it's true "if it ain't broke then don't try to fix it", I actually wasn't trying to fix it. I was trying to pull a Tim The Toolman...MORE POWER!!!

Well I went and bought a 200 Dave. I heard it do the same thing on the guys bench I bought it from and it's brand new. Got it home, same thing here too. Must be the Devil in my shack. Of course, he must be in my truck too. I even went back to the original setup before I swapped things out and it's still there.

Tomorrow I will go down to the local church and get some Holy water. I'll get enough to fill a yard sprayer and spray down the shack and my truck. In the meanwhile, I'll leave both amps laying on top of the TV and leave it turned to the religion channel....

My Grant talks to me "from within" if any power mic is used as does my TNT400 with any radio hooked to it...both ever so slightly but is audible.
...and when I find the guy who sold ME that naturally dehydrated Holy water..!

Well, I filled up the yard sprayer and went into the shack with it strapped to my back like a Ghostbuster...

The first thing to burst into flames was the M80...

Seriously, both are making it, so I don't know. Waiting on the 667v to get here and the M400 and I'll see if they do it too. If so, I might better start looking at HSN.com and see if they still have some of it left...

im just guessing here, but do you think it could be an issue with overmodulation causing spurious emissions and harmonics? i dont know too much about what im suggesting here so bare with me.
maybe try this: first try a stock mic and the mod limiter intact in the radio. (vanillagorrilla's post is what got me thinking about this)

if that cures it, then its the harmonics produced by overmodulation. put a low pass filter inline from the RADIO to the AMP. this should clear up any harmonics being produced.
i would run the low pass filter anyway because i love power mics.
give it a shot,
matt

That's what the problem is in my Jeep is Modulation. I think as long as your SWR, and grounding is all OK, I would not worry about it. My Jeep talks to me. It can be annoying at times because sometimes it seems like mosquitoes are buzzing in your head. Iknow I need to get some clip ons to put on my wiring in the house and the Jeep.

Well, I'm running an S-9. There is nothing clipped or removed in this radio. With the Top Gun turned off, it still does it. If you watch the signal on a scope, you'll see it does over modulate with the Top Gun on, but it doesn't with it off.

Appreciate the advice, but I already tried that. I had thought of the low pass filter, but not before the amp, that is a good suggestion I think and I'll try that and see how it works out. Maybe it'll make my signal cleaner, it should anyway. I'd rather sound super clear just 10 miles away, instead of dirty 20 or more away.

Thanks!

house and try it, maybe the devil will
like his equipment better and stay there/ LOL
Make a sacifice to the gods and throw your

Are they really davemade, or Joemade?

Ive never heard a comp box that didn't resonate your voice as you modulate into it.

Well, they are suppose to be a Davemade, but they could be made by Joe. I know my 200 came from him right here in NC.

But since you say you've never heard a comp box that didn't, that makes me feel better.

Maybe the Devil isn't in my shack after all. I thought maybe I had the "Amityville Shack" or something...

Anyway...I got a M400 recently and I don't recall hearing myself in it, of course the fan is so loud, it's kinda hard to hear myself think. But both the 200 and M80 box, I can hear myself well in them. Atleast anyone else having Devil problems will now know it's not the Devil...

Kevin, adjust the talkback until it's louder than the resonation in the Dave's. This will inevitably cancel out the amp's "talkback"!! gl Jase

Pat, you can't hear your cause 1) you are too busy talking and listening to yourself (haha). And 2) yours has fans and they are too loud!

Get me that pic, and I'll tape it to the M80.

Jason, you ain't right buddy! I was thinking about stabbing myself in the ears with pencils...or atleast that is what the voices in my shack tell me to do lately...

try this ! trun the audio down on the radio ! then start talking wile turning up the audio till it starts talking to ya ! then turn it back down and check what your audio is doing on a scope ! it you look it will start to over modulate a little some amps will do this !
look at a blackcat 300HD and use almost any radio with it and will talk to you ! the 3 dave mades ive seen all do the same thing ! is something to do with the audio coming out of the radio that causes this !
Hope it helps !
Allagator !
P.S. dont worry crank it up and run it ! it wont hurt a thing !
