does anyone have any current mods for this radio? it seems as if all the mods that i have found for this model, most likely apply to older models of the pro510xl. the parts location labels of common available mods are not consistant with the parts location labels of current model productions. thank you, eddie, st.louis mo. |

eddie, Well first off, the PLL is not modifiable without a $60 kit. Not worth it. Tweaks? All you're gonna get is another 1 watt out of the thing anyway. Steve Tech181 Tech181@copperelectronics.com |

POWER TWEAKS 1. Locate the 2.7 ohm resistor in front of the final bias resistor(15 Ohm w/RF bead) and change it to a .47 Ohm. (DO NOT change the 15 Ohm resistor!!) 2. Re-tune L9,L6,L5,L4 for maximum forward power. MODULATION Cut D14 AM POWER: L6,L5 VR1: Squelch VR2: TX meter VR3: RX meter VR4: RX IF gain All at you own risk... |

Actually for the money and right out of the box the 510 is one of the best talking radios out there. There are no bells and whistles but for someone who doesnt know about modding radios this radio talks heavy! |

Put a Astatic D104M6B on it, and no one will ever know you are not running a big radio. The mic will cost you more than the radio, but look at all the people you will have fooled. |

Eddie, The local radio doc told me these are called throw-away radios, as in "junk" As far as I'm concerned, the only thing we must figure out is what they are calling D14 in the new version. Obviously, D14 isn't in here. Once the limiter is cut, and the carrier is turned down, it'll be ready for an "addition" and I'll bet the average CH 19 operator doesn't know it's not a big radio then. I like the challenge of it -- doing it because the others won't. Amateurextra PS: cute how they don't include schematics anymore, see what I mean by "challenge" ? PPS: "Speak softly, run a BIG amp" ;-) |

yup, we did it too. A cobra 25 or a Cobra 29LTD with the limiter clipped, power down around 2w, an echoe board, a T\S 250 and a good power mic and everyone thought we had a BIG radio. Hahaha |

The PRO 510 XL models made from 1999 up, have changed. The AMC is D-203 and the power adj. is now L-203.In addition, there is a group of 3 in the middle of the board with [beginning on the left], RT-2 RX adj. [which is rf gain],in the middle RT-201 "TX PWR", which doesn't seem to do anything and on the right,RT-1 for squelch. I use mine to throw in various trucks I drive and it does a great job for a inexpensive radio. Using a RF limited power mic, I get great radio checks while on the road. |
