Beleive it or not that's about all they do RELIABLY. You'll find mods out there to "volt them up" to get more power but I don't recommend it. |

Consider that the meter on the RECEIVER at the other end DOES NOT respond the way the needle on your wattmeter does. Small increases in power are a factual waste of time and money. If you want to have more at the other end of the conversation, on the RECEIVER meter at the other end, you need to DOUBLE the power from what you have now. Depending on the receiver at the other end, this will get you between one-half and one S-unit on the receiver's S-meter. It's a cruel fact that what looks like a lot more on YOUR meter will bring up the receiver meter on the other end only a little, or too little to even see. A power increase on YOUR end of 20 percent or 50 percent LOOKS like a lot on your wattmeter, but won't move the receiver meter at the other end enough to see. A 100% increase is usually the smallest difference that THEY can see at all, on the other end, let alone enough of an increase for them to HEAR. 73 |

Sure, if you can get it down to 100w peak, about 5w carrier. |

100 watts peak into a dx500? A 20 to 1 peak to carrier ratio? Your neighbors are going to hate you--that is until you blow that amp up running that much into it. |

thanks weakstation, i think i'll do some of those mods and make a gift of it to a friend of mine, then maybe his 250 palomar will do what its supposed to instead of 130. brad. p.s. after an hour or so using the 2970 to drive my texas star 500 , it doesnt even show any signs of getting warm, not even a little so i think i'll run it a while.thanks. |
