ARRRGH! every one forgets about the 6 digit freq part, why? Do none of you like having a 6 digit counter? any way, if memory serves jp1 on and the rest off will give export and 6 digit counter ( as apposed to 5 ) any way I love KNOWING I'm on freq. all the time, so i love my 6 digit counter BC |

Bc910, What about the 6 digit frequency display? You mean it has one? Mine is always dead on frequency so I never have to use it and never look at it. Lon Tech808 CEF808 N9OSN

ok, ok, bc, i know that 27.025 is ch 6, & 27.115 is ch 13, & if i go 27.0248 or 27.1151 you can sometimes 'notch' somebody in or out a bit, but my wife, or my kids, and even the local ducks don't all know that. & the all time 6 digit readout eliminates the channels from the display...when the radio gets a bit older i may look into wiring EXTERNAL switches into the radio, so i can get ALL freqs it covers, 25.615 all the way up to 32.990 without having to open covers & move jumpers. (all time 6 digit readout goes 26-32.99, export goes lower, to 25.615, but not as high, only to 29.205)i also saw on a forum that i CANNOT relocate that the S9 can be modded to go even lower yet, along with some power adjustment mods/upgrades but didn't get to read thru the whole thing & now i can't find it again. |

BTW The coverage I just stated that I use had to be programmed (VERY EASY) but I chose those freqs so I could go pretty low, still have CB and have all of 10 meters to use when i upgrade my ticket technically i am using bands B thru I, I just moved them all down 1 BC |

hmmmm, mine only puts 6 digit on SSB in export mode, not AM, but in 5kc/10kc 6 digit all the time AM & SSB the channel display is blank, and i swear that the 2 different times i played with jumpers, i got different freq high & lows, magnum told me send it back if there's a problem, but i didn't see a problem, & when i went back to export mode, everything is fine, it's just the 1 on 2-4 off that acts funky! |

Removing JP4 makes this unit show all 6 digits on all modes, as out of the box it only shows 5 digits unless on SSB, which shows all 6 digits. Lon Tech808 CEF808 N9OSN |

i meant to tell that ole bc character, i was mistaken on the jumpers, it's 1-on, 2-off, 3-on, 4-off, that is the mod that covers all freqs in 10kc or 5 kc steps w/the 10kc switch off, and 6 digit all the time, AM as well as SSB. thanks, lon. now, i do see bc's pic, but with that mod, mine does not show the channel display. in export mode mod, 6 digit only on SSB, ch shows...no problem...are you sure you're in the on-off-on-off mod bc? |

i give up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! where's that #$%^&$#@ sledgehammer. i work & play too much, don't sleep enough!!! i just did off-off-off-on & got 28065 on ch 1 on every othe r band & 28315 the others. shut off radio & turned back on again & got 28315 on all bands, did it again & got 28735 or something & a different 28 mhz freq every other. BANG! on-off-off-on got me 30 mhz something on all bands, that's no good, think that's the program-whatever-bands-you-want-mode. ok, on-off-off-on is how i normally use it & it was fine, band A ch is 25.615 & all rest are good. on-off-off-off gets me no freq counter but same bands/freqs i usually have. on-off-on-off gets bands/freqs i use, all the time 6 digit freq display but NO ch display. i tried on-off-off-off & shut off & turn radio on, tried disconnecting DC & shut off, & anything else i could think of that may 'reset' anything. still no freq display that way. HMMMMM HMMMMM HMMMMM. oh well it works just fine, so i'll put the hammer down & leave it alone now as i'm waiting to take a drive about 35 miles east of home to test some mobile antennas.... |

Hey that S-9 is pretty sharp looking. Pat should have sent me a picture and I'd probably already have one. I will assume you guys got yours from Copper. What did it cost and what did you get? Another place is advertising them at 318.95. Do these come with all blue displays? What kind of power do they put out and what kind of final does it use? |

Therealporkchop http://www.copperelectronics.com/cgi-bin/checkitout/checkitout.cgi?catalogSTORE:CKIE:prodP03-01087+ That should answer most of your questions, oh and http://www.copperelectronics.com/cgi-bin/discus4/board-auth.cgi?lm=1089075697&file=/7750/72526.html There is a link to Lon's review. That review is what made me buy mine! I have NEVER in my life seen a review like that one! Even other radios Lon has reviewed that he likes werent reviewed as well as the S9! here's a quick rundown: 45 watts Blue display 6 digit freq counter GREAT freq coverage Turbo echo TopGun modulator 1 watt swings to 45! Roger Beep Adjustable talkback REALLY GOOD RECIEVER! There ya go porkchop! BC |

Ok, what about this one. Magnum 257 OR S-9? I assume the major difference between the S-3 and S-9 is the freq counter and the meter. That and SSB. So even though this is a S-9 discussion, which do you think is the better radio? |

BC910, I just read the review. Thanks. That does help a lot. I saw where it says it needs no tune or adjustments, but on the purchasing page from this site, it offers it for 30 bucks. Does that mean that someone here would say "hey you don't need that" and not take my money? OR if it is offered and can be done on this radio, who would be the Tech that would do it? From reading this post, I see there are apparently jumpers you move for the meter you intend to talk on. This like all other conversions is something I could do myself. But my largest question is, is there a peak and tune for this radio from Copper and who would do it? I see in the review that you get 45w PEP. Has anyone got any more out of theirs? I honestly was expecting another final instead of the 2SC1969. |
