I'm new to the board so hello every one.
I used a freq. mod from this board on my mirage 2950 and it works great! It's the mod for 26.000-to 32.000.. Is there any others?also I've heard 1000 ways to put talk back into these radios but none have worked so far.any suggestions?

thanx. Justin

welcome to the forum! i have a lot of mods for this radio. tell me what you want to do specifically and i'll see if i have the mod. here are a couple to get you started.
here's a good talkback mod. it will provide a nice sounding audio.
remove D-78 or install a SPST switch in line to turn it on and off.
replace D-115 with a .0047uf ceramic disc capacitor.
thats it!
for a much improved receiver, remove Q18 (a 2sc1674) and replace with a 2sc2999. retune L8 and L9 at center of band for best rx.
hope this helps.

Thanx Kid vicious.I forgot to mention the board in this rig is EPT2950132 I don,t know if that makes a difference for the mods?
I would like to try any mod that does'nt require major surgury..lol..

Do you have a schematic for this board?
I can't seem to locate D-78 or D-115.

Some times I over look stuff..

I also did the mod where you program the split to 6.000 Mhz (because this radio only goes 26-32.000) set the split to neg. then push manual
set to channel 1 and key the mike then push manual agin to get the freq. display and your on 20.965 or if you set the split to (+) and set to ch.40 and key the mike you go to 33.4050 only thing is when I go low I can only tune freq. up and ond 33.405 I can only tune down.
any way thanx again if you could send me a schematic I would owe you 1000 favors..

If the recieve AND transmit are dead, I would look at the main-board's driver and final. Also, if the radio has been tuned-up for more output, you may want to look at the power supply's voltage regulators mounted on the rear or the radio...these tend not to last too long after a BIG tune up, without an almost total re-build of the power supply and adding cooling fans.

vtex1, the 2990,if its the old style, (not DX)
has a common problem. when you leave the power button "on" and remove power from the radio, it can mess up the microprocessor. if this is the case, i dont know what the cure is, short of replacing it. check ranger's website for more info on this.
if its really old, it has a watch style battery behind the display that needs to be changed after years of use. i would do a search on this forum, i know this subject has been discussed many times on here.
