i have about 12 of these things. i was wondering if they could be use for something. they are mostly crystal radios and work good. i was wondering if it would take much to mod them for other frequencies bands. or what can i do with them? anyone got any ideas

YES THEY CAN! LEAGALY! Now not knowing what radio you have i cant say how to do the mod but as a rule you have to change the frequency of the 38 mhz mix crystal on CRYSTALPLEXERS and if a HYGAIN cybernet chassies the MIX crystal..... and retune to the new frequency. For a SSB radio you want CH-1 to be at 28.01 mhz and for a AM only you want CH-1 to be at 29.00 mhz. Back in the late 70's many HAM mags such as 73 Had detailed stories on how to do just this. |

ok, that was what i was hoping to hear. so, how far will these things stretch? is 10 meter about it or is it possible to go higher, such as 6 meter? the ones i have are various brands. cobra, midland, royce, realistic are the majority of them. there is an oddball or two. thanks for the info. is there any sites that tell about these type of mods? |

Modding them for 10 can be a bit hard except for the sideband ones going up to 28.3-.5 the ones going on 29.000 take a bit of rework like changing parts. All the ones you have can be modded just how you might go look them up for expanded cb channel mods TRY ......... http://www.radiomods.co.nz/ Now modding to 6 HAS BEEN DONE ....HOWEVER .....It's no easy task! |

Bruce, How about a 40 channel sideband rig going to 6 meter? Those of the uPD 858 PLL vintage. Carl CEF-357 |

It has been done but it's a pain in the #$% You would be better off to build a transverter. |
