where are you checking the swing-on the radios' meter, or an external wattmeter? if radios' meter, it could be adjusted DOWN so needle doesn't bounce off side of meter all the time. if external, did you see BOTH radios on SAME meter? 1 could be rms/avg & other could be PEP. what is dead key of yours & what is swing-read on an external meter( & what meter)? lastly-is your radio 'getting out'? & what kind of signal reports does it get? |

I have a Turbo, and I am sure you're familliar with the power supply problems in them...also remember that the main board drives the 100W amp in the back, so it can be real easy to mis-adjust and overdrive the amp. By bypassing the amp's keying circuit and relay, you can see exactly what the drive wattage is. Since the board is a one-final RCI-2950 board, you can try the heavy-swing modification (when applied propperly this can keep the amp cooler and prevent premature failure). Some Turbos came off the line, with the bias current set too high on the Amp's pills. This could cause problems like you describe (low modulation/ foreward drive). |

If the radio was ever "tuned-up", I would place my bets on the crappy power supply not giving you 1) enough current; or 2) a stable voltage... |
