I have a Magnum 257 radio ( Blue screen and ERF 2030 transistors ).
I would like to install a Communications Specialists SS=64 CTCSS Encoder in the radio.
Does anyone know were the 5 wires from the encoder should go.
1 goes to tone out, 1 gos to PTT-IN, 1 gos to PTT-OUT, 1 gos to the +, and 1 gos to the -.
I have a manual and also the schematic.
Thanks for any help.

Out of curiosity why would you want to install one??

CTCSS is usually used on FM radios/repeaters.

The function is to either squelch your receiver until the radio receives a specific tone

OR

to transmit the tone to a radio/repeater which would be deaf to your transmission unless it received the proper tone from you.

Would be pretty useless on CB unless another radio was also equipped with the same tone settings

I'm not useing the 257 on CB but on 10 meters,28.91 mhz to 29.70 mhz, Your right CTCSS is use on FM repeaters which is what I want to use.
I have several repeaters in my area which require a CTCSS to access them.

Hi
Just so there is no misunderstanding, My radio is a Magnum 257 10 meter mobile transeiver, it operates on FM,AM,USB and LSB.
The radios out put is 40 watts.
As received from the mfg. the radio has a fixed PL set at 88.5 mhz repeater access tone on and off switch which can't be programed.
The radio can be set to operate on CB, but that,s not for me.
I'v made contact in Texas on AM and some other contacts on USB.
But as I said I need a CTCSS to asscess the repeaters in my area which don't use 88.5 mhz input.
Thanks to anyone who can help with were to attach the encoder.

Tone out would probably go to the center connection of the FM deviation pot.

PTT in-out, most likely inserted by breaking the PTT line and hooking it in series the same way as one of those multi tone Rodger beeps.....

I am going to order one to day from Comm. Spec.
I see by your profile your also on 10 meters, hope to catch you some day.
I'm usually on 26.935 AM.
Also 2 meters and 440.
I received my General back in 1968, I loved code and use to work QRP with a Heathkit HW-8 back then.
Have a great day.
