I have misplaced the owners manual for my 257 (blue display version). Can anyone tell me if the radio has CTCSS (PL) tone capability for 10m FM repeater access? I know my Magnum 357DX had a preset tone (forget the exact tone right now, I think it is 88.5), and wondering if the newer 257 has that capability. Also, is there a way to alter the frequency of the CTCSS tone in these radios? A trimmer pot maybe? Is there a downloadable version of the manual for these radios available? Thanks |

I guess no one can help out on this one. I found my magnum 357DX manual and verified the CTCSS tone to be 88.5. Can anyone (Sam Lewis?) tell me if I can change the tone frequency? Is there a VR that will accomplish this task? A test point to place a meter to read the frequency of the PL tone? I would like to access a repeater in N.Y. that has a PL of 146.2. Does anyone use a 257 on 10 meters? Thanks |

Is it possible for someone to ask Sam Lewis if the PL tone can be altered for the Magnum 257/357 radios? Also, RCI has directions on their web site for adding an aftermarket tone encoder to their radios. Can RF Limited offer info like this? With the new amateur radio rules changes, this would be useful info for techs who are interested in getting on 10 meters, and would be useful to them as they upgrade to get privileges on the FM portion of the band. Thanks Moderator Note! After Sam Lewis talks to everyone tonight in the Saturday Night Voice Chat I should have UPDATES to post tomorrow. |

Communications Specialists Inc makes tone boards the guy who bought my 5054 is using one there is no reason you could not do the same on a 257 |

Yes, I installed a ComSpec external tone board (TE-32) on the 5054 I got from Copper a few years ago. RCI had the installation instructions right on their website. I was thinking it would be nice if RF Limited provided that sort of info too. Since the 257/357 have an encode tone of 88.5 in them, I am trying to find out if it is adjustable, or somehow programmed into the CPU. |

2ir473, After talking with Sam Lewis last night in the Copper Voice Chat he said it is NOT Programmable or able to be changed but you can get a board from: Communications Specialists for it. Lon Tech808 CEF808 N9CEF CVC#2 |
