Will any of the palomar, boomer, or klv amps work on 12 meters. I have a Ranger 2950dx which has 12 on it and I wondered if they would work with it? Also which one of these is the best amp?

Thanks

Don, try this use a dummy load that is know good at 24.8 mhz set the output of your ranger to 1 watt. check the power output of the amp. Lets say 100 watts at 24.8 now go to 26.8 and see how much it changes then 29.6 measure again if it peaks near the top you might be able to retune it down but +/- 1 or 2 db would be fine 1 db would put you at 80 watts and 2 db would put you at about 65 watts out. This will alow you to determin if the gain has suffered which would tell me that the tunning is far enought off that you might fry the output transistors. Remember as the output tunning goes down the power disapated by the output transistors goes up so if your output drops 20 watts the transistors are getting that much hoter. also find out for sure the ratings on thoes transistors this is how i test any amp that i modify to ham use.

I don't have a amp at this time. That why I was asking, so I would know which one to get. Any opinions?

Thanks

don what ever amp amp you buy that is one way to test it. I know that the amps ive used slack off at 29.6 and i cant go below 28 i had but i dont own a 2950 dx anymore i did not like it and both my hf radios cover 12 anyway. i asume you are a ham or you would not be on 12 meters... i hope

Yes, I am a general class ham. I was told that most of the klv amp will go all the way down to 12 meters. I wonder if this was in error?
