Ill try this again . It did not post last try. I just got a Montgomery Ward 719a-ssb/am 40 channel radio off Ebay. It is in perfect unused condition. I looked inside and it has a d-2824c chip in it . Im told it has the same board as the Cobra 146gtl and the uniden pc224. My guess by looking at the production code that it was made in 1979. Im hoping there is some mods for it. If anyone out there knows of any that would be great . Ive looked on the web ,but came up empty

Hey Ed: Here's the tune-up adjustment for the 719A:
Modulation= Cut R104
Am Power = VR6
SSB Power= VR7
Here's a list of the radios that run the 2824 chip. I have put channels in some of these, but not the 719A. I'll have to look at some more notes. What works in some of these might not in others. Scrapiron

Ed, several of those radios with that chip will modify with the "N" expo kit. The Wards 719A is not listed in the expo kit list, but again, they might not have made very many of the radios, and I believe it was the only SSB radio they made, man you got a collecter's item, ha, Since it's a 1979 model, that's when the bottom dropped out of CB sales. About that time, J.C. Penny had some really nice AM/SSB mobiles, like the 6247, they sold in the 250 dollar range, when the stores closed them out, I bought several for 50 bucks. Hey thanks for the info guys . This forum is the best! I have learned alot about cb and ham radio in the short time I have been here . Ill try out the mods and report back soon . This radio is quite the find. I almost hate to put it in the van. 73 Ed. |

Thanks Scrapiron. Man 50 bucks ! Where was I? Oh well, I only paid 78.00 for the 719a. I think I got a pretty good deal. I have a friend who has a J.C Penny. It might be that same model number. It pretty banged up but I can still hear him when I cross into N.H. (about 30 miles). To me thats a good signal . If you saw his set up you would have a good laugh. 73 Ed. |
