If I were to buy a new CB Which one should I buy?I understand that Cobra was at one time made by uniden and now they are not. When they were made by Uniden I heard they were "THE RADIO".Now I have heard that they arent what they used to be.So, knowing all of this, which is the better built, better sounding radio,A Cobra 29 or a Uniden PC78XL. I used these 2 models because they are comparable.Cobra 25 or Uniden PC68XL, another 2 comparible models.Thank you for anyone opinion.I sure would like 307's input on this one as well...BigEd

Biged: For a low priced straight 40 channel radio I wouldn't swap 1 new Uniden for 10 new Cobras.

RCI2990,
Are you trying to say something?LOL.The reason I asked this question is because the tech. that I normaly deal with told me that the Cobras are like a little kid put them together. He said the unidens are much better built.I wish thet would get back together and build another 2000gtl part for part like the old ones.Well, maybe a few extra channels. Thanks for the comeback...

Biged:If any of Cobras management would read the postings on this forum it would possibly make them wake up.As I have always understood it,Cobra told Uniden that they were too high on thier boards and if they didn't come down Cobra would have to buy boards somewhere else.Uniden responded that they built first quality boards and would not compromise thier name.To end the story Cobra being selfish and not caring about thier five million customers got Joe Blow to build junk boards for a song.

Well everyone i know that has had a new cobra didnt like the low quality they had in the radios. LOL most of my local CB shops (one shop even posted a sign refusing to get them in on trade!!) have more soundtrakers traded in than any other brand there is even rat shack!!!
As for Pop Comm they always hype the junk like radio shack and Cobra sound"crappers"!!

If you go in the thrift stores, flea markets, you will find older radios for cheap. since the cell phone, people see thier old cb's in the garage and get rid of them. i only had 1 uniden it was a 510 and it worked great.

Well some of my UNIDEN's haven't been too hot either....I have had many problems with the PRO series, especially with the receive. The finals were not heat-sinked well enough to keep them from melting on long-winded key downs and even the speakers died after few hours use. I'm sure there are DUDs in all radios, but some of these problems seem to be design errors......

I had a Uniden cordless phone once, 'till I left it under the edge of the window airconditioner and saturated it with condensation(water). The best cordless phone I have had! I look at those cobra models and wonder what they're thinking! In-tenna or not, they seem cheap. I'm checkin' out what you folks are saying and looking at their angle on consumer electronics now! Little chintzy FRS radios with sorry displays, radar detectors whitch are bound NOT to pay for themselves, now CB's with sorry PC boards. What are they thinking?

Vernonott:
Thanks for bringing the truth to light. Cobra was an excellent radio when Uniden built their boards. I think that the straight Cobra 29, not the Classic, but the old plain jane "29" was the top of the line in the late 60's and on into the 80's I think. I am not sure on the exact year that the old 29's were discontinued.
It's sad that the general puplic did not know that Uniden was the driving force in the Cobra's during the c.b. craze of the late 60's and again in the earley to mid 70's.
Just a comment. If it were me, I would not hesitate to purchase a Uniden over Cobra today.
So "Biged" that is my opnion for what it's worth.

Good luck!
Bill (Mavrick)
