I wanted everyone opinion on these radios.I have my own and it goes as follows.I have owned 2 of these radios and they both have there pros and cons. Here goes.
Galaxy 99: Pros: Big meter, loud Tx,dual finals,Talkback from the factory, and a very nice looking radio...Cons:Side mounted mic,Useless robot feature,And it would be off freq. when it was cold.
RCI 2950: Pros:Good clean modulation, front mounted mic, great ears, and easily modified...Cons:HORRIBLE s-meter,rear dials hard to use, single final,If somebody was too close to you they would override the radio and would get a garbled sound.
I have never owned a connex 4800 dxl so I dont know what to expect.Looks like a real nice radio.Dual finals,Lots of channels, digital echo. However, side mounted mic, small meter. What would everybodies opinion be?

I have never owned the Galaxy 99, but I have owned the 2950 radio. LOVED it. Never any trouble, and always had good reports on it. I just got the Connex 4800, without the echo. And it is some nice. The meter is small, but I go by what I hear more. It goes WAY LOW, and goes real high. Mine is doing a dead key of 3 and swings 35 to 40 watts AM, and swings 40 on SSB. It would be tough to pick the 4800 over the 2950. But I can say I have loved them both, but the Connex is sure nice to look at! *G* But I wouldn't turn my nose up to one of those new 2950DX radio!

The Connex 4800 sure looks like a winner, in depth tests would seal it. Advertised, it's a promising deal. But, do you really need to go so low as it can go: under 25 mhz. I had one of the first 2950's that came out and could interfer with the Burger King order window. That was fun but hardly worth using that bandwidth as an incentive to get a rig that can go that far(4800/2950) The Galaxy 99 is in my opinion the ultimate in mobile looks and that voice changer has got potential. Its channel span is more reasonable with 8 bands instead of 12. Problem? WHy does Galaxy have a religious opposition to putting every bell and whistle but the super basic SWR meter in their radios? Unbelievable and ridiculous. Yeah, a few do but that's it. Its like buying a Rolls Royce that doesn't come with a steering wheel.
