After reading the countless requests on this forum for help with radios, amps, and other equipment, I had an idea. So many of the questions are written very unclearly and without some of the information needed for the techs or other members to post solutions or fixes. Could the Forum Master or one of the moderators create a simple form that has fields for Model, Modes, Power, Modifications, what does work, etc? I think this could save loads of time by eliminating multiple posts just trying to find out what the problem really is, thereby getting solutions back to the original poster as soon as possible. The form could be filled out by the poster with as much information as as possible, then submitted so everybody could see all the specs and features of the particular piece of equipment and not have to speculate about things that may or may not be wrong with the equipment. Just an idea.

Well we have the Modification List that took me well over 4000 hours of typing and over 6 months to compose and enter just to post the information that is listed there now.

And that I continually update when time allows.

I would hate to think how long it would take for someone to list over 100,000 more mods for radio's that I do not have listed.

And since ALL of the Copper Forum Techs volunteer what spare time they have to approve post's and raise families that would be a VERY TOUGH job.

But any member that does have additional information on any radio make / model can e-mail it to me and I will be happy to add it to the Modification List for the Copper Forum Member's.

i may have misinterpreted what what he was asking, lon, but i think this is what he is saying:
a forum member asks, my radio & amp don't work. why?
then 10 of us give back suggestions as to what COULD be wrong.
what he is suggesting is having a 'form' that ALREADY asks all the questions-
radio?
carrier?
PEP?
mic?
antenna?
coax type?
length?
jumpers?
etc
etc
etc

so that those of us with too much free time on our hands ()don't have to play '20 questions' to help

No what I meant was a form (not f-o-r-u-m). A form that has fields that ask for information from the person asking the question. There are many questions on this forum that are asked like this- "My Cobra 148 doesn't talk, whats wrong with it?" What if there was a form that had a bunch of questions like, does the radio turn on? does it have FM, SSB, does the radio receive, does the radio smell like it was on fire, what size fuse does it have, is it used mobile or base, etc. Then the form could be submitted so that there is as much clear, accurate information as possible for the rest of the forum to look at and give there best ideas on. It seems to me that many new comers or people who just can't write their ideas down very well have trouble asking the right questions and don't always give enough information for anybody to really diagnose whats wrong with their radio. I think this would really help cut down on time neccessary to help folks with their problems. Lon, I did not mean in any way to say that you haven't done a ton to help the forum. I just keep seeing questions typed with not nearly enough info in them to diagnose, and I think a lot of folks don't know what info is needed to be given. Just an idea guys, take care

Triplecguy,

Well it sounds easy but by the time people would Read and Answer the helpful questions below in a pre-made Form that could help solve/resolve the problem most people would just give up.

Do you mean a pre-made (Form) something like this?

#1 ~ Is the Radio 100% Stock from the Factory with NO modifications?

#2 ~ Make of radio?

#3 ~ Model of radio?

#4 ~ Modes problem exists on?

#5 ~ Is it used for Base or Mobile operation or Both?

#6 ~ Is problem noticed in Mobile or Base use or Both?

#7 ~ Is problem Constant or Intermittent or both?

#8 ~ Describe as precise as you can what problems you are having.

#9 ~ Does radio have proper power if in mobile use and proper fuses installed?

#10 ~ Has the Stock modulation settings been adjusted and are you using the Stock mic or an after market mic and is the mic a Power Microphone?

#11 ~ Has the radio been peaked/tweaked?

#12 ~ Are you the original purchaser of the radio or did you get it used?

#13 ~ List “ALL” modification’s that have been performed to the radio. ie: Super swing mod, NPC mod, transistor swap and any and all parts that have been upgraded or swapped.

#14 ~ Is radio properly installed if mobile, and is radio properly grounded?

#15 ~ Is radio properly installed if using it as a base radio and properly grounded?

#16 ~ Have you checked all coax, antenna’s, installation to make sure everything is in good working condition and properly installed?

#17 ~ Where you using an amplifier when you first noticed the problem?

#18 ~ What accessory equipment do you have in line with the radio, ie: meter’s, amp, low pass filter’s etc?

#19 ~ And please list any other helpful information that may help other's to help you resolve / fix the problem you are having.

If enough Copper Forum Member's respond in favor of adding this Form and think it would be helpfull and use it, then I can add it to all of the Topics in the Ask The Tech area of the Copper Forum.

As it would be a great help to the Techs and Moderators as well as other members offering help and advice.

Lon, that is pretty much exactly what I was after. I was even going to volunteer to make the form for you, but seeing that you already did it, makes it even better. I hope it really helps out the folks here on the forum. Lon, well done as always. Lets all do as much as possible to keep people into radio, no matter what, as to keep the hobby going. Thanx everybody.
