I believe the high gas prices helped push the CB boom in the 70's. With gas prices rising again will CB use begin to rise again? I would like your opinions on how CB helps you lower your cost of driving.

Here in Bloomington/Normal IL. having a CB is a MUST HAVE! item.
With roughly 100+ stations in the twin cities when the 25+ CEF Member's wthin 25 miles of us see a LOW price at a station we all get on the radio and let others know about it before the price jumps which lately has been jumping up and down like a YO YO as much as 10 to 15 cents a gallon or more daily. 
With out a CB none of us would know what is going on or where to go and fill up to save 10 to 15 cent's per gallon.
And already the CB radio has been buzzing with more and more talk turning to the CB for informatiom on WHERE to get/purchase a CB to keep up with the jumping fuel prices.

With High Gas Prices and hard for any of us to do the out and about things we all come to like we now have to find other things to keep us busy.
It may not be all that turns to radio (CB and/or Ham alike)but for those that do have the liking for it I'm sure to see it rise again.
We all know that radio's can be price high, Although if you counted up the $$ in what you put in the gas tank in a month times the price of a great radio you might have bought 2 radios.

well i need to move by lon.not alot of locals
here on cb.group of 10-15 nothing big though
none are cef members either.i do notice ch.19
more talk about were to get gas but thats about
it.rising gas prices have actually hurt my cb
fund.what once was saved for the hobby is now
most/if not all is spent in gas

when the novelty wears off and people sit down and count the cost of a cell phone and a cb radio
then probly we will see a come back in cb radio my galax y radio has cost me 318.00 for the seven years i have had it, a cell phone at 50.00 a month would have cost 4200.00 glad i dont need one right now

Yes i do listen to ch. 19. And lately all i hear from truckers and mobile cb where is the cheapest stop i can make....????
Channel 19 is all you hear about gas and diesel price , Also direct me to the near filling station at that price!
Yes i listen to get the cheapest price on gas on the cb and it saves time and money here local.
Yes listen and learn and you might save some money for gas and diesel. All the money you can save shure helps!

ask the mananger of a rat shack about cb sales a few months back and he said they sold about 35-40 a month for the 1st 5 months of 2007,and the reason why was cell phones too expensive.think about it $100 radio and a 40 p&t and you can talk around the world for nothing is what i told him use my radio everyday cause i am laid off i dont did need a cell phone right now,i just holler on the radio for the person i want to talk to |

852 There is new products for CB being tested all the time! Some will make it and some will not make it. AS far as new base radios are concerned I allmost bet something will come up soon.
In responce to Gun_runner Yes a lot of people are turning the cell phones in and shutting down there kids cell phones to make ends meet because of high gas price. Also alot of homes that have dish tv that have extended channels are going to basic channels.
Overview : My honest opinion cb and radio is one way to go and no bills to pay to keep in touch with the family and friends. Yes CB is still very popular and very fun to injoy. Also to make new friends over the air waves!

I have been hearing a lot of talk in the morning on 19, which has been dead around here for years. The local truckers have been getting their moneys worth out of it. Conditions are improving, just got my new Magnum 257 installed in the truck, looking forward to talking with hams and CBers the same. I really dislike cell phones and use CB or Ham whenever possible. We have an old sign at work from when G.E. made 2 way radios that says "We save gas with 2 way radio". It is going to be true again. I am always trying to get folks into radio, and the gas price crunch is a great reason. Good topic idea Forummaster!!!!

I call out on channel 19 to find the best price in town. Seems like the further I get from the big city Indy it gets a little cheaper, the big truck stops are your best bet.
Discovered that using a Walmart card or Walmart gift card at the Walmart gas stations will save you 3 cents on the gallon. 3 cents is 3 cents!

We have internet sites to look for best prices
and don't forget that little item evey teen
has to have now the CellPhone! It be good for
Drivers but most locals just log on! |

O live way back here in West Virginia and we have
one lady who speeds up and down our road all day.
I have never seen her with out that cellphone
up to her ear. And when you do see her better
keep your eye on her as she's on the phone and
80% of her brian is not on the road TOO! |

i suppose im one of the few who dont look for or worry about lower gas prices. i have bulk home delivery from the same guy i get my heating oil from. i go to work and go home, grocery and other trips are consolidated into after work on the way stops. i do not run around or make unnecessary trips and have been this way for 22 years.gas in january was $2.89 a gallon. in feb. i topped off the tank and it was $3.15 a gallon. 2 weeks ago i got 129.1 gallons for $509.95. thats a rise of $1.06 a gallon in 4 months. so it may be higher to buy it this way, but as prices fluctuate at stations i am locked in at current $3.95 a gallon.some weeks i make out some i dont. but i have the convienence of not going to a station and i like that. so back to the original question, gas prices have not changed cb use for me. the 70's were the peak of my running around with mobiles, and playing hide and seek with radios ect. when i was in high school gas was $.40 a gallon. as far as complaining about gas prices, i dont. you gotta have it, so screw it. aj |

This discount voucher from supermarkets idea is just bogus....other words come to mind but....
Who in their right mind wants to save 4c a litre or 16c a gallon? I'm after $40 a tankful saving at least. What a ripoff. You get a voucher to save 2/10ths of bugger all, only to spend a fortune at the supermarket. Just my 2c worth.

I am wondering if this topic might just rise up again as we approach $3.00 per gallon. Going to $4.00 caused tremendous financial conditions across the USA. It will be tough sledding if that happens again. Let's hope not!

Here's one for you. I was driving a fuel tanker in '73 when all the trouble at the pumps had started. From where I sat, people were willing to pay the price if only they could get the product.
As a tanker driver we were instructed to carry protection against agressive customers at the stations. People thought we were to blame for the shortage. In truth tankers were sitting off shore waiting to off load to the tanks on shore.
I would get my delivery tickets on Monday for Tuesday and could only drop 500 gallons here and 300 gallons there. Trouble was these were 1000 gallon a day stations. Who was at fault? Take a guess!
Anyway; CB was hot! Maybe it will be again! As others have said, cell phones are expensive. I won't give mine up though, I'll keep looking for cheaper cell service with good coverage.

Hey Press man. I remember those days. I was living in Denver, and worked part timne in an Exxon gas station. I would open at 6:00 in the morning. At 11:00 everyday, the owner would make me put out the sign that said "out of gas". They relyed on car repairs to carry them through. Lines were long sometimes, and some places would only sell you "X" number of gallons. Life goes on.

Well now we are in May of 2014 versus when this thread started in April 2008. Read through it and see if any of this sounds familiar to you.
Gas in metro Atlanta is from $3.65 to $3.79 for plain jane regular unleaded.

Regular is about the same here in FL. Diesel is out of sight, maybe CB will get a chance when folks get tired of high cell bills?

Gas in INDIANA low test is $3.69 to $3.97. Diesel not worth mentioning.
I see cell phone family plans on tv from $150 to $160 a month, who are they kidding.

I pay $25pm for my cell plan - 1000 minutes or texts (or any combination that adds up to 1000). I rarely use 1000 minutes. The next lower plan (in minutes) is 300 minutes (would work most months) for $30. Huh?? Less time for more money??

We are paying around $1.55 a litre for unleaded and diesel is up around $1.62 a litre. 1 gallon is about 3.78 liters, so we are paying much more than you guys are. My car probably drinks a fair bit, premium unleaded too. Fortunately it's mainly a Sunday Driver. |
