Heres the best mod I ever found on the Cobra 19 series of radio
1. Disconnect Power
2. Disconnect Antenna
3. Remove mic
4. Remove screws from case
5. Puts the screws in parts jar.....lay radio on shelf for parts, go buy a GOOD radio , even the Uniden pro510 or PC33 is better, l8r, Shadowwalker

Cutting D9 will provide plenty of splatter. Don't do it unless you intend to use a compressor type power mic with some form of audio limiting in it. Otherwise, the negative peaks will cause your RF envelope to clip, thus reducing range and causing more TVI. Best bet: Leave it stock and don't try to get some magic voodoo performance out of it. The 19 is a good radio all unto itself and does not require turning it into 'parts' and buying a 'good radio' at all.
