Hello - I just got a new TVI filter and when I have it inline my SWR goes from 1.2/1 to 1.6/1.I tuned my A-99 again to get the SWR back to 1.2/1. Now when I take the filter out the SWR is higher. Is the filter making the SWR meter read wrong? I am getting a higher SWR on the meter in the radio and with an external meter. Should I tune the antenna without the filter and once the filter is inline it is making the SWR meter read wrong. What I am asking is the filter making the SWR go up or is it just making the meter give a false reading. Also how should I make the connection if I want to hook up my amp. Should it be Radio/Amp/Filter/Meter/Antenna or Radio/Amp/Meter/Filter/Antenna?
Thanks,
Joe

The latter, get a MFJ low pass filter and you won't have that problem. The insertion loss is less than .1 db.I noticed little if any change in swr.And it's rated at 1000 watts.BIGBOB

Where can I get an MJF filter?
I am using this filter that I thought was a good filter.
ICE Lowpass filters are 9 element Cauer-Parameter (Chebyshev version). The higher power version (6000 Watts) utilize capacitors constructed from brass and thick teflon insulation and coils from copper tubing. These filters are built like the military surplus of the past, rugged and extremely well constructed. Other filters available to Amateurs and CB operators pale in comparision to the construction and performance of this ICE line!

radio/amp/filter/swr/antenna is the way it is done. as lone as the radio meter doesnt show over a 2;1 match your good to go. swr meter should always be the last thing out to the antenna. make sure you use 3 foot jumpers at least to connect all of that together. retune the antenna after it gets hooked back up this way. good luck.

THEN you got another problem.ASK 307 for help,I heard some a-99 ants.will not hold swr reliably because of poor internal soldering, besides it could be your meter unless you're running a byrd,or similar quality.Check www.mfj.com,true my filter is rather cheap looking inside but what do you need.Sometimes bigger is not better.I have no experience with your filter thats why I suggested asking 307,just post a new message such as "307 HELLLLP!!!" how's that?
