Upto now my only access to here has either been at work, or via the tiny screen on an iPod, well finally got pc talking to my landlords router. I had an issue since moving, where my Linux based pc would acknowledge the router but not pass data.

I re-installed XP for awhile to test to make sure it was not a hardware issue and then re-installed Linux, albeit an earlier version than I had been using. Instant connection to the router. Here it 3 days later and still have access.

Now I can get back to doing my job here and acting like a moderator again..

OK, another chapter in this continuing saga. Having got the laptop running on an older verison of Linux and accessing the router, I sillily assumed (My error) that installing the same version on the desktop, using the same cd and the same USB wifi adaptor should get that on the router too.

No. Not to be, it politely tells me that yes the router is there, and yes it's 90% siognal strength, but no I'm not going to talk to it. Huh!!

well I had been using Linux Mint 9, but it would not see the connect to the router on either the laptop or the desktop. Laptop is an IBM Thnikpad T23, the desktop is a dual-core P4 3Ghz.

I reinstalled Ubuntu 9.04 on the laptop and had it working. So that is what I reinstalled ion the desktop. I have tried Mint 9, 10 and KNoppix - can't recall the ver number with no luck.
