Why do people always have to pick on McDonald's when they have worked diligently to help save the environment? especially their contribution to the reduction of global warming due to greenhouse gas (Methane).

In 1937, Patrick McDonald opened "The Airdrome" restaurant near the Monrovia Airport in Monrovia, California. In 1948, Mac and Dick McDonald introduced the "Speedee Service System", which established the principles of the modern fast-food restaurant.

Today McDonald's boasts on their sign that they have served over 99 billion (99000000000) hamburgers.

It is estimated that a cow produces comparable amounts of methane per day as an automobile.

The average weight of a cow is 1660 pounds. after slaughter the carcass will be about 830 pounds.

When the cow goes to the butcher the carcass looses about 1/3 of that weight due to fat and bone.

So after processing we are down to an average of 556 pounds of edible meat. That would equal 2224.4 quarter pounders per cow on average.

99000000000/2224.4 = 44506383.7 or just over 44.5 million cows. So from 1937 to 2011 (74 years) they have eliminated the equivalent of 44.5 million automobile exhaust emissions from our atmosphere.

And you thought they just served hamburgers.

The only problem with your theory, is that the farmers keep replacing these slaughtered cows..

Sometimes I think I'd rather smell the poop than what most cars put out. Some cars out there will take your breath in the McDonalds drive up.

I got behind a quote (new) luxo boat one day and it smelled like it had the worst case of NOX to ever come off brand X's line. Why can't they make them smell like #9 tire compound and Nitros Oxzide?

Anyone ever been downtown Fortworth, Texas on a hot summer day? It would take every cow on the globe to match that.

I remember some of the first McDonalds here in FL. At the window you could have your food in hand in less than a minute, try that now.

A&W Drive-ins are what I miss. We used to meet there on Friday nights in our cars, everyone had a tray hanging on the car door while talk was exchanged about cams, tires and carbs. We'd scare up a drag race and after that head to the Drive-in movies.

Got off on a tangent, that happens from time to time.

I remember years back, Smokie and The bandit was playing at the local drive-in, we had just finished classes for the day and someone suggested going to watch 9again) the movie. 10 miles took approx 10 minites in a built up area.

I recall one corner well, 95 degree right=hand corner, I took it well over the posted 35mph with full left-hand lock as I power slid the car thru. Darn it, you can't get away with doing that now adays.

One of the places we used to go to drag race is now a $6 million community. The old A&W is a B.K. now and the Dairy Queen is in the mall. Remember when a mall was a park and you had picnics there?

We had a fishing spot on an ocean inlet to the river that required a Jeep or Beach Buggy to get to, now you can ride on a paved road from the North or South and pay to fish. There was a spot that was sandy and about 4ft deep that was loaded with Flounder. It's been dredged out now. Hooray for progress!
