bought it used, naturally. This NOT a name or number on this antenna anywhere. I Can Not find any info on this on the internet. Nothing I can find looks like it. I was told it is a CB Antenna (27 megaHtz) I am very new to CB's although I am 62 yrs old. If you can help me ID this I sure would apprecite your help with your knowledge and experience.
The radials are 4'4" Mast overall from coax connection up is 17'6".
The SWR match in terrible-above 5! I hope you can help me here. I can hear VERY GOOD with it, almost NO static either. I am afraid to try and transmit with such a terrible SWR Match.

Looks kinda like an old Archer (Radio Shack) 5/8 antenna from the late 70's. is there a capacity hat (3 smaller radials) on the top or what looks like a threaded hole on the tip end (missing hat?)

Several companies made an antenna similar to that one. Not sure about the make of your's. Those antennas had a matching coil in the bottom part and the older ones would not handle much power. Your's might have had an overload and burned that coil causing the high swr.
Another thing, where the top mast goes through the plate for the radials, there should be a gasket. If it's bad it would cause high swr also. |

Gasket is good... not sure if the matching coil is fried or not... I don't even know if it has a match coil inside. .I just can not get the match to even move the needle much no mater what I try... longer - shorter - better ground ...??? Nothing seems to make a difference. SWR about a SIX ! |

If it's a clr-2 he has some of it missing. A CLR-2 is 19' 10" long and has 9 foot radials.
I still have a new CLR-2 in the box. They are good antennas, only reason I haven't used it is that it just takes 300 watts of power. |

These radials are only 4'4" and the top section is missing..

Jim, If you have some aluminum tubing you should try adding a piece to the top section and get the total length out to about 19' 10". See if that brings the SWR down. IF it works you can get by with the shorter radials. Just a thought.

Oh my god! That was my first antenna I got from Radio Shack around 1980! Worked really well. All aluminum. Wish I would have never sold it |

Hy-Gain CLR II or the commercial version used for low-band VHF.Loading coils are different!!! The ground radial clamping ring is the tattle-tale for the Hy-Gain antennas'!!! |

Hy-Gain still makes it and has spare parts for it and the Penetrator 500>. MFJ Enteprises owns Hy-Gain now!!! |
