am considering purchasing the 980 and would like opinions about performance and quality with the ssb feature.

already have the cobra 29 lx. cobra is a stock radio. would like to use my kl200p and need to know if either the 980 or 29 lx need tuning to be used.

Dutch;
There are a couple of reviews on the Bearcat 980 and the best one I've read said while the radio isn't capable of extra channels or one of the strongest audio radios, it is a well built durable radio with Surface Mount Technology. It would work well with your amp and has good recieve. Unlike other radios out there it isn't proned to SSB drift. The radio comes with an adaptor so you can run a better mic than stock. One recommended was the D104-M6B. The folks here at Copper can set you up.

Don't know if you've bought the radio yet, but a Galaxy 979 might be a beter choice.

thanks press man.
have been considering the 959 or 79.
can noaa channels be added to these radios?
if not, i may opt for the uni 980.
would want the clarifier opened, as well a good p & t. and by doing this would better audio and swing really make that much difference?

thanks

Not much can be done to the 980.
The 979 will take more road abuse than the 949/959 and will tune up real nice and out talk the Uni 980. Noaa not available on 979/949/959. If weather is issue then maybe a seperate reciever? Check with the folks at Copper.
